"The process was smooth and handled professionally. The team did a review of our house layout, discussed the results of our initial radon testing, and recommended a plan for mitigating the issue. They were flexible with scheduling around the holidays and had the work taken care of in a morning. Levels of radon were completely eliminated as compared to the test before we had the system in place."

"<p>I had ResCom out to run a more accurate radon test after having a high average level of 5 pCi/L using a card test. They were able to arrange the test quickly after I contacted them, and placed a continuous radon monitor in my basement, which ran for 3 days. The average reading from that test was 7 pCi/L, with peak levels of 12pCi/L. I had researched the cost of a mitigation system and was expecting it to be around $1000. The quote I received from ResCom was $725, so I decided to have them do the job.</p> <p>The day that the install was scheduled turned out to be stormy. I had stayed home from work for the install. Tom had contacted me about an hour before they were to show up and said that they were monitoring the weather, and would be out if the storms blew through. A few hours later, it had quit raining were Tom was at, and he said he would be coming my way since it looked like it would be out by the time they got here. I told him it was still raining pretty good at my house. Tom had said they would chance it since I had stayed home for them to come, they wanted to make sure I didn't have to stay home another day. It was still a bit stormy when they got here, but the rain had pretty much stopped. The guys got in and quickly completed my job. They cleaned everything up after they were done, and gave me a follow up card test to start a few days after the system had been running. I got the results back from that test, which were and lt;0.3 pCi/L. So, it looks like the system is working! <br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"Sent pictures of system location on exterior of house before install which was a plus to be able to review the location. Installed system and checked radon levels after installing which reduced radon levels to near "0". Pleased with quality of work for the price and includes a five year warranty that compliance level will be maintained. Hid system in an area of the house where it is not very noticeable which was great."

"Our fan went bad after 3 years. We had Certified Radon (original installers) come out to replace our fan. Something was not properly sealed and moisture trips the circuit. Now that fan trips the circuit breaker, my sump pump is on the same circuit. They will not come and fix their install problem for over a month. The only advice was to TURN OFF MY FAN for the 5 week wait, so that my sump pump will work. Disappointed."

"We recently had the opportunity to hire and work with Jerrod Turnbow of J & K Property Inspections LLC when purchasing our home in Blue Springs MO. My wife and I were were extremely pleased with the process and the outcome of the inspection. Our realtor had recommended Jerrod to us. Jerrod was professional in demeanor but was also personable. He had the ability to explain technical aspects of our house to us in terms that we could not only understand but also appreciate the what and why. Jerrod was not an alarmist, but he was thorough. He clearly communicated each issue and gave his opinion as to the level of concern for each item. He uncovered several issues that we were totally unaware of but also gave us some insight into the correction process. He also provided several recommendations that we incorporated into the house after closing. Be sure and ask him about the importance of testing for radon. Overall, our experience with Jerrod was pleasant and contributed to creating value and confidence in our new place. We would certainly engage his services again if we should ever choose to move again."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Overland Park, KS

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
