"$80 service call and a 500% markup on parts? That’s excessive. I completely understand that businesses need to make a profit, but being charged over $500 for a 20-minute visit is more than what many highly skilled professionals—attorneys included—earn for their time. Before scheduling the service, I asked for a quote on both the part and labor. Unfortunately, I was told they couldn't provide that information in advance (which, in hindsight, should’ve been a red flag). I trusted the positive reviews and moved forward anyway. When the technician arrived, they spent about five minutes confirming what we already knew: that we needed a specific part. We expressed concern about the cost, and a manager offered a modest discount, which we declined. We ended up paying the $80 just to be told exactly what we had already suspected. Afterward, we contacted another company that provided the part at cost ($100) and completed the service for $135. Bottom line: if you're trying to avoid unnecessary expenses--which I think right now most people are, it’s worth calling around. I’d recommend saving yourself the service call fee and going with a company that’s more transparent from the start- one that respects your time and your wallet."

A-Total Plumbing - An Ace Hardware Home Services Company is your trusted choice for all your plumbing needs in Atlanta and North Georgia. We take pride in providing exceptional service and expertise. Contact us today for helpful, reliable and professional plumbing solutions.

"Warning: Do not use A-Total Plumbing. They screwed me. In the end, they fixed it, but it took 4 days and 34hours to install a water heater. Let me first say, the employees of A-Total Plumbing were very nice and personable. As far as their plumbing skills, I will let you determine that from my ordeal below. I called A-Total Plumbing because I had pipes that sounded like they were rattling. They quickly dispatched two guys. When they arrived, they performed a series of tests and determined I had a leak in the house, and it was coming from my water heater. The water heater was old, so I agreed, they also let me know that I needed a 75-gallon tank because of the size of the house. The cost was almost $7k, but I needed it done so I agreed. They started right away. It was a Friday, so after working on some stuff after 3 hours they told me they would have to come back Monday. I said as long as I have hot water you can come back Monday. And we agreed on that. They told me the job would take about 6 hours on Monday. They arrived Monday morning. • Three hours into the job they told me the water heater would not fit in the spot the old one was, and they needed to move it. I am not sure how they didn't know that Friday or when they arrived on the job on Monday, but what could I do. Shelves had to be removed and part of my storage was given up. • I left them alone to work. Fast forward to 4:30 pm, 6.5 hours later, I go to check on them and they let me know it would be a few more hours. Keep in mind this entire time there is no water to the house and no heat because they told me they needed it off. • About 7pm there was a smell of gas. They told us that they replaced a valve, nothing to worry about. So, we turned the fans on and opened the windows to get the smell out. It was very cold outside, 48 degrees I believe, but we have a baby in the house, so we had to get the smell out and bundled up because I could not turn the heater on. • Fast forward to 8ish pm. This is when they tell me they can't finish the job. There is a part they need that they did not bring. Why they didn’t know that on Friday or even early in the day I don’t know. Obviously concerned and upset, I asked what that meant. They said I will have water, just not hot water. • I asked what time they would be here in the morning, and they said they would have to send someone else because they had a class. They apologized and told me they would do everything except install the one missing part, so it will be quick for the guy coming out. Their shop was closed and apparently, the part could not be purchased at Home Depot. They left. • I went down there to check on the space and found trash everywhere, pipes leaning against the wall, boxes and the old water heater leaning against the wall. They did no clean up and really disrespected my space. I understand that during a job you make a mess, but they told me they would do everything except this guy installing the part. So now what? It was late so I decided I would talk to the new guy when he arrived. I asked when the new guy would be here, and he told me someone call me between 7:30 and 8am to schedule. What? This is urgent for me, have them here as soon as possible. • At 10pm same night, the smell of gas is gone so we close the windows, turn off the fans, and turn on the heater. The heater does not work. I know it is connected because they asked me to make sure the heater was off before they started their work. They told me the only thing I would not have been hot water, but nope, no heat either. At this point it is 42 in the house. We go to bed to get warm. • I call their office. Someone picks up and I explain the issue. The first question they ask me is if I have a membership. What? I just explained that I am in a house with no hot water, which I knew, but now no heat. She said she would mark this as an emergency and have someone call me between 7:30 and 8am the next day. • It is now 8:30am the next day, still have not heard from anyone, so I call. Guess what, I'm put on hold, when the person on the other end comes on, they take my info and have no idea what I am talking about. They are going to call someone else and have someone call me back immediately. At this point I am lost. • It's now 9:30am. An hour has passed and no call. I have called again, and they say the technician is on the way and very close. It would have been nice to have known, but now I am waiting. • It is now 10:36 am and the new guy just arrived. Once again, very nice guy. The previous guys did brief him a little, but there was much more needed than he was told. He has started working and told me that everything would be fixed today. • It is now 3pm and I am told that they have to order another part and it won't be here for 2 days, 5 hours has passed since the new person showed up. But they will keep working on the other stuff. He explained what was going on and next steps. • It is now 8:30 pm and nothing is fixed. Apparently, the previous people from this company did something to the water shut off. They were shutting it off and on fine on Monday, but now Tuesday, it won’t, and the city has to come out. That will be in the morning of day 4. Going to bed tonight with no shower, no hot water, and no heat, luckily it is only 46 degrees outside, instead of the colder it was previous day. They will give me a credit of 5% (not sure how long it takes to post, but haven't seen it yet) and redoing all the duct work the next day to get me working until the part comes in a few days. Apparently, when the new guy touched the duck work, it all fell apart from the previous guy’s work. I feel like most of today was probably them fixing stuff from the previous people. I am told they will handle that situation internally. • Day 4 of Hot Water Heater installation. They showed up at 10am to start the duct work. Also, they got the water off to finish, but it would be off for no more than an hour. Water was off for an additional 7 hours, not the original hour I was told. The reason, the previous guy broke the water pipe coming in the house and it had a small leak. • It is now 5:30pm of day 4 of hot water heater installation and I now have heat. Apparently, the water pipe breaking was more severe and now they have to dig a hole in my front yard and run a new one to get to it so it’s going to take a little longer to get water. • It is now 9pm on day 4 everything has been fixed. I wish I had Jacob, the new guy, on the first pass. Not only was he apologetic, but he really made me feel comfortable and got things done. He was awesome. I'm afraid he might be a diamond in the rough, but I gave one star for him. He did his best and it a good plumber, but I can’t overlook all the damage caused by the other ones. So, in summary, I had an annoying pipe sound, called A-Total Plumbing and after four days, and upsold to buy a water heater, I finally got hot water and heat. I should have just lived with noisy pipes. It was a total of 34 hours between all four days to put in a water heater when the average is 3 hours. My thought is that it took 2 days to fix the damage done on Monday. I now feel like I was taken advantage of, mislead, and out $7k. I'm not even sure now if I needed a new water heater or the bigger one, I was upsold. I have no confidence. I just hope it was done correct. I keep going down, expecting a leak. I found A bucket of water and several wet towels pile in the corner and I’m hoping they’re from the job and not new. Trying to stay positive."

"I am leaving a review before the work is even started. I received a quote from another company and scheduled the work. When they showed up, they tried to triple the cost. I told them to get out of my house. I then called Rooter Pro Plumbing to come out and give me a quote. Jerimey Jackson came out and looked over the situation and then put me on a conference call with the owner. They agreed to match the quote I received from the other company even though it was seriously underbid. They are a great company to work with. They are scheduled to come out this week to start the project. I would highly recommend a company with such integrity in the employees and the owner. I look forward to working with them."

Roto-Rooter is America's Largest Plumbing and Drain Cleanng Company. We offer 24 hour services with no overtime or after hour charges. We also offer convenient finance options

"BUYER BEWARE! Had a pipe leak within my wall. Caught it fairly early with minimum damage. The Roto Rooter rep Brian came out and inspected and said I needed water mitigation based off the moisture in my walls. When I say the leak wasn't that bad, it really wasn't! He stated that my insurance company would cover it all and that he deals with my particular company all the time and not to worry. I obviously was taken back by the cost of almost 4k! Fast forward, my insurance company are questioning duplicate charges and Roto-Rooter is saying I owe almost 3k or a lien will be placed on my property! This whole water mitigation is a scam and the salesman did not tell the truth. They should have picked up their fans a lot earlier than they did. I'm sure they were trying to milk all the money they could. Over 5k for a bunch of fans in my home. I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO THIS PLACE! Contacting my lawyer and will have my day in court if necessary. BUNCH OF SCAM ARTISTS IF YOU ASK ME!"

"They are nothing short of fantastic. I was quoted by another company anywhere from 5 grand to 12 grand. Turns out all I needed was a pump out and a blockage cleared for a lot less money. Thomas septic was honest and genuine. Traits so rare lately. I highly recommend them. You won’t find a team more capable or honest. Quality work done without all the bs and unneeded expenses that is Thomas septic! Honestly if I could I would give them 10 stars. Seriously call them first and you won’t need to call anyone else! I am so grateful to have found them!"

Plumbing installations for a remodel or addition FAQs

Rainwater recycling systems reliably provide service for 15 to 30 years. If you opt for high‑quality tanks made from fiberglass or concrete, you can extend their operational life even further. On the other hand, rain barrels typically last no more than 15 years because exposure to UV rays and harsh weather conditions degrades their material over time. Knowing this difference can help you choose the right system for your long‑term water collection needs.

Contractors install a cistern system by first selecting the method that matches your site's requirements. For above‑ground installations, they position the cistern beneath your downspout to capture direct runoff. For underground installations, they excavate the area, position and route the cistern for water distribution, and then seamlessly connect it to your home's plumbing. A final inspection confirms that the system delivers water efficiently for both irrigation and household use.

A cistern functions by gathering rainwater from roof runoff via gutters and downspouts or from water seeping naturally into the ground. It stores the collected water in a durable tank that supplies water for irrigation, household plumbing, and other applications. Integrated filtration and distribution systems then ensure that the stored water is delivered safely and efficiently for various uses.

You can store rainwater as long as the water quality is maintained and the storage container remains intact. When used for landscape irrigation, your stored water remains safe as long as you prevent algae growth through regular cleaning. For potable use, proper treatment and durable, non-degradable containers can secure the water indefinitely. This approach ensures that your stored water remains usable until it's replenished by new rainfall.

The amount of rainwater you can collect depends on the size of your collection surface and the rainfall intensity. For every inch of rain on a 1,000‑square‑foot roof, you can collect between 550 and 630 gallons of water. If your roof is this size and you receive half an inch of rain, your system can produce an average of 225 gallons.

Yes, harvesting rainwater is cost‑effective because it provides you with continuous access to water without recurring expenses. While there's an initial investment, you'll offset that cost through long‑term savings on your water bills. With the stored water supporting your landscape irrigation, household water needs, and even domestic uses with proper treatment, this efficient system enhances your home's sustainability and reduces your utility costs.
