"Carpet Plus has an extensive selection of carpets and allowed me to take home many samples, over several days. Their communication was consistent and they kept me informed of the status of my order and confirmed scheduling and followed up afterwards to ensure I was satisfied. Their installer is first-rate and she did a flawless job of installing the carpet on our stairs. I highly recommend Carpet Plus."

"Everything was perfect. I'm very particular with home improvements and do quite a bit of it myself so I understand many of the challenges that installers typically face and know where to look for problems. That said, I was extremely pleased with the attention to detail of the Sheaves installers when laying our new Armstrong vinyl tile in the laundry room, kitchen, and bathroom. A month earlier, Jeff Sheaves, had dropped by for the initial estimate and discussion. He clearly guided us through the process, made some great suggestions, and gave us a reasonable quote. Jeff also broke down the costs, and allowed me to pull up the old flooring (saving us a few hundred dollars). The new flooring looks wonderful... clean grout lines and tile, perfectly cut and centered tile, polite/respectful folks. The install was all done in 1 day. Jeff and his son returned the following day for final inspection and touchup. (I've attached a couple of photos... I asked to re-install my own shoe molding/trim which is still missing from the kitchen photo.) We'll be using them again later this year when refinishing our hardwood and also installing new hardwood. A big thanks to the Sheaves family and installers!"

"Our purple carpet had about 100 urine stains from previous dogs and our own. The specialist, Robert, matched to color and treated every spot. If we didn't know where they were, we'd never know they spots had been there. Perfect job!"

"Overall a good experience. On carpet: My only complaint would be that the carpet was back ordered and took much longer to arrive than originally promised. It happens, but I felt left in the dark for a long time. Looks great, and their crew moved all the furniture and put it back just right. On the hardwood, they were really good. it was complicated because of water damage and mold remediation and the time it took for the floor to dry out. They were very concerned about making sure the subfloor was ready before installation and took extra care to work around existing cabinetry. If I could add a and quot;plusand quot; I' give a B plus. <br />"

"They did a great job, calling me within 45 minutes of a web inquiry that I made an hour before they opened, they were able to come out an stretch a 7 year-old carpet that had started bubbling up. They came out the same day and were great to work with. They worked around several features that made the job more challenging (hearth, baseboard heater) with aplomb. I'd use them again in a heartbeat. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Palmyra, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
