I sent Daniel a message on Angie's List, he replied to the message (that night) and he called me the next day.  He came over and gave me a quote and the following day they did the job.  They were very professional, very skilled, very quick and their equipment looks very advance, therefore they had no hiccups in the job process. The work was excellent.  Normally when someone pressure washed my house, they would be here all day, sometimes equipment failure, and not do an excellent job. I will be calling him next spring to wash my house.

"Excellent!! In my newly purchased home, I wanted the color in the master bedroom changed. The existing paint job was excellent - I just wanted a different color (from blue to gray). When I showed Matt my choices he made a suggestion (a warmer gray as opposed to a cooler gray for the bedroom). I am so glad I followed his advice. Matt arrived on time with all tools and materials. He removed wall plates and covered trim. He asked me to look after the first coat to make sure he was doing what I wanted. Then, when finished - it was so beautiful! The color turned out to be perfect and completely covered the old color. The job was spotless in that there were no skipped spaces and no disturbance to the already perfectly done trim and closet door (which were white). Matt is so professional and also so personable. He is a dream to work with!!

Midwest Painting, Navarre, FL was one of contractors we requested quotes from and fell within our budget.  In addition, Midwest Painting assured us that the work would not exceed the quote, that is, that the quote was for labor and supplies.  So we knew there would be no hidden costs in the end.  (I have left the approximate cost portion of this survey as zero as each situation is different.)  Furthermore, Midwest Painting did not require a huge payment up front.  The owner, Terry, indicated we would pay at the very end when we were satisfied with the work. When he was finished, we were given the opportunity to walk through and note any areas we thought were missed or needed attention.  In addition, Midwest Painting will return for a one-time free "touch up" after our household goods are delivered, so we know that our brand new painted house will still look perfect after the movers bring in the furniture!

Terry, the owner of Midwest Painting, was thorough, meticulous, and professional.  He removed shelves and doors and patched walls before painting, replacing all in the end.  He worked with our schedule to accommodate our needs and was always prompt and courteous and careful to clean up each day.  We are very pleased with how our house looks and the care taken to do such a great job!!  Thank you Terry and Midwest Painting!!

"Still waiting for cement pieces to be picked up,grass seed, and little things like wood slinters left on paneling, wood on the back which was cut was not replaced<was not on the contract>,chipped edgeing on door top siding. Additional work added to bill all because we wanted a round step, they were going to put in a regular steps. Bathroom is not at floor level but at a 8in high.We are starting to get to the ripe old age, wife is 60 yrs. young, that is why I requested a round steps."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Paxton, FL

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
