"In preparation for a long-awaited bathroom remodel, I decided to try and circumvent excess dust in the rest of the house by putting a large towel in the duct vent in that particular bathroom. MOLD was discovered! Upon checking other ducts, it appeared to be in all of them. After careful research, a company in Mississippi was contacted, M.R.T.E. (Mold Remediation and Testing Experts). They called back very promptly, and Steve Brown spoke at length about his passion, mold. An inspection appointment was scheduled for testing almost immediately. Six different samples were taken from ducts throughout the house, air samples both inside and outside, as well as under the house. Samples were submitted to the lab they use, with results returned overnight. M.R.T.E. suggests remediation (removal) at any mold spore level above 500 per cubic meter (for our specific mold type) in your home. Ours was ~1900!!! It was indicated this high level of colonization occurred over an approximate 10-year time frame, which meant weâ d been breathing this in our air for that length of time. Our home is circa 1962, as are many homes in this area. We had no idea the mold was present, since it isnâ t clearly visible, nor could it be smelled...UNTIL I began preparing for the bathroom remodel. A team of 4 spent 5.5 hours scrubbing, vacuuming, spraying, removing moldy insulation from under the house (17 33-gallon bags of it). They were professional, informative, friendly, guarantee their work, and we found them to be less expensive than most local remediation companies. POINT: If you have ANY doubt, have your home inspected, particularly if you have infants, elderly, or those with chronic conditions living in the home. It just might save loved ones from serious illness (allergies, asthma, COPD, pneumonia) and may even add years to your life that the mold would have insidiously tried to steal from you! We are more than grateful we found the issue and had it resolved. Check out their website for yourself, and compare to what we have locally. You will be glad you did. www.moldremediationandtestingexperts.com Patti/Huntsville, AL"

Small jobs welcome

"I thought he did a good job explaining what he did do but very disappointed they didn't explain that you had to pay a lot extra money to actually find out what kind of mold if any you had. The $199.00 fee they only looked for mold & tested the air quality. If they found any mold it cost a lot more to find out what type. He did say we had mold in our crawl space but not what kind, that cost more money. Overall good for what he did do."

"Daryle inspected the whole house looking for signs of mold. Then he took 8 air samples including an air sample outside.  The air samples were then sent to a laboratory. An in just over 24 hours the lab results were emailed to me. Daryle made his recommendations in regards to remediation. For me there was no significant mold and no remediation was recommended.  It was a thorough inspection and report.  I would use this company again to perform a mold inspection.

"I was very impressed with the very quick turn around the company provided me. I called them on the afternoon of Tuesday, the work was performed on Wednesday and by that evening the full report was back. The technician called me directly after the inspection to talk about it and we discussed his thoughts about the house with regard to its quality, the location, what repairs needed to take place, et cetera. I would hire this company again in a heart beat if I needed another home examined."

We will visit your home to provide a visual Insection for mold using the latest equipment, and if needed we can take air samples to determine if mold is present, even when the mold is too small to be seen. Once mold is detected we develop a plan to remediate the mold and prevent it from coming back. Whether the mold is in your home or beneath your home in a crawlspace we can help. Does your home have an odor that keeps coming back we can develop a plan to improve the odor which may include scrubbing the air for a period of time, using ozone as a means to reset the indoor air quality or even performing duct cleaning.\n\n

"After reading the many great reviews I decided to have my home inspection done by Inspect It Like a Girl. I talked to them about the things I really wanted checked and was assured it would be done. When I arrived at the home for the debriefing I was shocked to find out the instructor had broken items in the home to include the garage door by holding it open and breaking an outlet cover. I was then given a multiple page report with several simply false items on it to include stating there was leak under a sink covered by a bag. In fact there was a bag taped to the pipe with a tool to shut off the water to an ice make. If the inspector that of touched the bag it would have been obvious. She said the gas fireplace did not work because she did not know how to use it. Most items listed had a statement to have another inspector do an inspection on that item. I was under the impression I had paid an inspector to do this inspection. The there was the roof that was not inspected because her ladder broke early that day. Finally I was told they could do VA ventless fireplace inspections. Know after everything I find out they are not licensed per the VA’s requirements. So I’m off to get another inspection. If you want someone to come and look for cosmetic problems or tell you what items you should get a real inspector to come see they are great. But I can turn on lights to see if they work, listen to see if an appliance sounds funny, or look for cracks in a wall. I did contact the owner multiple times about the disappointment I had with the inspection and finally the fireplace letter not meeting VA guidelines. I never got an acceptable response. Now we have ended with her informing me I will need someone else to do another inspection."

FAQs for mold & toxic material test projects in Pearl, MS

Some companies offer a no‑cost phone or video consultation that screens for red flags. If the discussion points to a real issue, the pro will recommend a paid on‑site inspection. The complimentary call clarifies whether you need full testing, but it isn’t a substitute for samples, lab work, or a written report. Always confirm what the free service covers before you schedule.

A standard inspection, which includes basic air and surface samples, takes an average of two hours. If the pro needs to probe hidden spaces, such as wall cavities or ductwork, plan on up to six hours. Extra time allows the inspector to reach tight areas, collect additional samples, and document findings. Lab analysis is a separate process and often adds several business days to the overall timeframe before you receive the full report.

Mold thrives where moisture lingers and air flow is poor. Common hotspots include bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, window sills, HVAC vents, fireplaces, crawl spaces, and enclosed attics. Check these areas regularly—especially after leaks or high‑humidity weather—to catch growth early and avoid costly repairs.

Unchecked mold can knock 20% to 37% off a home’s market value because buyers worry about hidden damage and health risks. Even after remediation, visible staining or a history of major moisture issues can still lower offers and prolong the time on the market. Addressing mold quickly protects both your property’s structural integrity and its resale appeal.
