"Very well. I appreciated their flexibility with scheduling around the painters' schedule. When they ran out of carpet for one part of the house (stairs, etc.) they promptly scheduled to return."

"Even though I live in Olney, I first went to the Vacuum and Carpet Expo in Potomac since Steve had such wonderful reviews on Angie's List.  He suggested that they send someone out to measure and he called Mike at the Olney location, who sent someone over same day.  After asking me a few questions (children, pets, etc.), Shaw's Sandy Hollow was recommended.  I selected the Sandy Hollow III (best) and, for warranty purposes, got the manufacturer recommended 8-pound padding.  When it came time for the install, the two-person team arrived on time, were friendly, and hardworking.  They did a nice job.  I would have rated an "A' for "quality" if they would have vacuumed after taking up the old carpet/padding and installing the new, and if they would have covered their shoes to help protect the newly-installed carpet as they went along including in/out of the house.  Covering my hardwood floors in the entryway would have also been appreciated.  Lastly, I wish that Mike would have forewarned that the carpet, even though it's a textured plush, shows the entire outline of one's footsies including each and every toe.  My upstairs could now pass for a replica of Grauman's Chinese Theater.  When Mike called the next day to check in and make sure everything was okay, I told him I was disappointed with my carpet looking like wet cement that has been walked on, he told me that it could be replaced within 30 days (Shaw guarantee) free of charge, and that I would just have to pay the Carpet and Vacuum Expo for labor.  I've opted to live with it though.  I would just recommend that a salesperson warn their clients of things like this, as we are not the experts and might not know or think to ask.  I would recommend Carpet and Vacuum Expo with the premise that you keep these few concerns in mind which can easily be avoided if discussed in advance. <br />"

"Their rep was extremely helpful in selecting a color and figuring out the best width of carpet to minimize seams that might trip one of our little kids. The only problem was that their rep had said the installers would glue the wooden strips to our concrete basement floor. The installers showed up and started hammering them into our concrete basement floor, which is not ideal. Apparently gluing the wooden strips requires doing the glue requires coming one day, and then coming another day to actually put down the carpet. Hopefully the nails in the concrete floor won't cause moisture problems... Otherwise they were great; the result looks great."

"After sending an e-mail to Petersen's Carpet & Flooring, I was promptly contacted by Gayle Petersen. She scheduled a time to visit the cabin to take measurements, and after that visit I stopped by the showroom to pick out different flooring options. She provided her expertise as I looked at different options but also gave me space to explore what was available. (She even insisted that I eat some blueberries from her lunch after noticing I was a little hungry!) I decided to use a combination of carpet, luxury vinyl, and solid hardwood in various areas of the cabin. Gayle even made a followup visit to the cabin to help me determine whether the lines in the vinyl I originally picked out would work with the bathroom, which had many weird angles. Ultimately we settled on a different pattern that better fit the geometry of the room. The three types of flooring were installed by three different teams of installers across four different days, and Petersen's Carpet & Flooring worked with me to find dates that fit in my schedule. Each installation team was prompt, courteous, and professional -- I have no complaints about the quality of their work or the finished product. They worked very hard. The final result looks great! Throughout the entire process, I kept in touch with Gayle, and she quickly answered any questions I e-mailed her. Carrie was also a great help, assisting with scheduling and keeping me up to date. The new flooring really freshened up the cabin; I'm glad I chose Petersen's Carpet & Flooring and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others. It was a pleasure working with Gayle and the team -- they're good folks. I sure don't miss the pink carpet!"

"Using Angie's List of carpet installers/repairors, I sorted the list by proximity to by residence. There was one clear "A" performer with a statistically significant enough count of feedback. I mean this company had "A's" in every category, with nothing but great feedback. For a small job like mine, I had to call them. When I called, the response on the other side was very professional and cordial. It was terrific to hear that Mr. Rivers would be able to stop by today, and that a check with him would allow a more specific time. Mr. Rivers stopped by that evening and explained how the repair would yield excellent results. We agreed on a price (very reasonable, and I know prices), date, and time for the same week. He returned as promised, and though the job was relatively a small one for carpet professionals, he applied the appropriate time and care to ensure excellent results! I couldn't be happier, and am thinking through putting down wood in other parts of my home. His company is my first choice at this point."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Piney-Point, MD

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
