"Tim was fantastic. We live out of state and we felt so comfortable and confident that he and his staff could handle the whole house renovations. Tim went above and beyond his role of contractor. He understood the issues that we needed to get the house in shape and quickly to get it sold. We would not hesitate to hire him again."

"Very pleased! My wife and I were a little particular with colors and details. Jonathan was very patient and helpful. Install was very smooth. He spent extra time to tell me / show me there was no wood rot, mold or insects. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend and/or use Jonathan's services again."

"In 1978 we purchased a house that was over 100 years old. The house had some settling issues, but I figured it must have finished settling after a 100 years - it wasn't. After shaving doors on a regular basis I tried jacking the house up. Despite my efforts the house continued settling and doors would stick again, especially in one corner of the house, so we hired a mason to replace that corner of the fieldstone foundation. He dug down deep removing a layer of peat and the installed a new steel re-enforced footing to put the new cinder block walls on. We did a stucco skim coat to match the existing foundation on the outside of the house and everything was good. For almost five years I didn't shave a door and I smiled every time I looked at that corner of the house. But after five years it started sinking again and it was worse than ever. This time I wanted someone that absolutely new how to handle the problem. I found Basement Systems of New Hampshire on Angie's List and had them come down to Melrose to take a look and give us an estimate. We received another estimate as well, but Basement Systems beat their price and really seemed to take an interest. <br /> I decided to hire them and actually made myself available to see the whole process. Four piers were installed over the course of two days. The first day two piers were installed on the inside of the house, down thru the basement floor and on the second day two piers were installed on the outside of the house. Jim Berube (the owner) the owner was there the second day. He took the time to explain the various steps that are required to lift the house. It was obvious that all my efforts had been a waste of time because the problem required much more technical knowledge than I ever imagined. The process is 95% prep work and when the lifting is finally done it's amazing. The foundation was lifted up slowly to where it was supposed to be and they controlled the lift by fractions of an inch. Jim had me check doors and windows and when I was satisfied he locked the piers in place. Now I know why they can guarantee their work for twenty-five years because after seeing the process I'm sure the corner of the house is not going anywhere! When they were finished lifting they patched up any spots that needed it and cleaned up the site inside and outside our house. The price of the job was very reasonable as well. <br /> Thank you Jim Berube and the folks of Basement Systems of New Hampshire for fixing that problem! <br />"

"I met with Lenzi Construction & Remodeling LLC who were very professional and punctual, a quality I really like. We went over the plan and  agreed on a price. I set high expectations for the project and Lenzi Construction did not disappoint. The workers were at my house every day on time and during the tear down phase of the remodel they always had the work area and the surrounding rooms very clean and accessible to my family. During the remodel  the workers would involve me  in the process and were very responsive to my questions and concerns. The job was done on time and under budget.  we had a custom light fixture on back order that was delivered after the project was  completed.  Lenzi Construction was very proactive about  the light fixture  and communicated the status  and scheduled a appointment when the fixture came in and promptly  came over and installed the fixture. <br /> The new bathroom is wonderful and gives my son more freedom than he ever had before. <br /> I highly recommend  Lenzi Construction& Remodeling LLC  for home projects. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Before you read any further, you will see that I previously reviewed KAKS and gave them an outstanding rating. I used to be an enthusiastic and ardent supporter. They finished my basement almost 8 years ago and then added a bathroom a couple of years later. Both jobs were done well and we really were very happy with the work. So what has changed you ask? Well the customer service years later has degraded significantly. We recently did a project where we had to remove one of the panels to run water lines. I figured no big deal, the team at KAKS is great and I'll pay them to reinstall it. Emailed the company, no response. Emailed the sales team, magically a response until they learned I was looking for service (which I clearly stated I was happy to pay for). The response, we'll get back to you to schedule something. Weeks go by and nothing. So I call the owner. He answers and assures me he can help up but call him next week because he's in the car. No problem. I call next week. Goes to VM but the mailbox is full. I wait 2 days and call back. Nothing. So I send a text message (which I generally avoid as a matter of doing business but alas, I am at my wits end) no response. This last stage is before the week of July 4th. So I let the week of July 4th pass because a lot of people take vacation during this week. I call today (Wed 7/11) and right to VM it goes. Again, VM full so I can't leave a message. So I'm stuck with panels that I don't know how to reinstall on my own and KAKS is completely unresponsive. To potential customers, be aware, unless you are handy or have another contractor to lean on, you could find yourself in this same situation. As I said, happy with the product but discouraged that the company doesn't seem to want to help (on a paid basis) former customers put their home back together. Update(7/18/2018): After posting this review, the owner contacted me and scheduled the repair work. The carpenter arrived on time today and completed the work very well. I am thankful for the response and have adjusted my review rating to account for the follow-up and correction of my problem."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Plymouth, NH

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
