"We found Stan on Angiâ s List for a remodel of our unfinished basement and we were impressed with his knowledge, his ideas, and his commitment to doing quality work. When we first met, we told him that we had a baby on the way and were working with a tight window to hopefully complete the project before the baby was born. We hired him and we knew that we made the correct decision because he was determined to make that deadline (and he did). Stan also worked with us on our budget and helped us cut where we needed to in order to make our dream basement come true. He handled all of the permits and talked with the borough for us so we didnâ t have to deal with that headache which made the process so much quicker and easier. That was very important to us. Lastly, even though our project was smaller in comparison to what he normally does, we didnâ t feel like he cared about our project any less than others. The commitment and care did not go unnoticed. Thank you Stan for making our basement beautiful for our new family. Highly recommend!"

"I had a great experience working with Sean Hopper. He was extremely professional, on time, and very reliable throughout the entire process. Communication was clear and easy, and he showed up exactly when he said he would. The quality of his work was excellent — everything was done carefully, cleanly, and with great attention to detail. He left the space neat and organized, which I really appreciated. It’s rare to find someone who is both skilled and dependable, and Sean absolutely fits that description. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for high-quality, trustworthy work and I would gladly hire him again."

"I highly recommend Lux Renovations/Owens Corning Basements for refinishing basements. The initial consultant was highly professional and it never felt like he was a ‘salesman’ with high pressure tactics just trying to get his commission. I have never refinished a basement before and assumed it would be the same as any other room in the house but I felt extremely reassured about the materials and methods used to keep the basement in the best condition as possible. When it came to the instillation, I cannot speak highly enough of the people that made it happen. They were prompt, hardworking, considerate, and there was never a moment we were concerned about having people we didn’t know in our home. The results are wonderful. Our basement was feeling like a dingy place we just put stuff but now it is open, clean, and an enjoyable place to be."

"Bad Experience. Bait and Switched us. Told us the no more than cost of our removal verbally and then said he needed $4k to do the design with us and get final firm contract after that. I told him I was skeptical giving him $4k and then have him come back with contract stating it would cost a big percent more. He assured me “he is not that kind of guy”. Then after the design and a smaller scope he wanted to charge us 30% more. Took our money and we now have to start over with a new contractor."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Plymouth Meeting, PA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
