"The job took three days from start to finish. We went to Lowe's to find color swatches that matched what we wanted in the final refinished color -- two shades of a similar color were chosen, with the vanity tops to be one color, and the shower and sunken tub to be another. The workmen arrived on time, were unfailingly polite and always considerate of household routines, disrupting as much as possible, and cleaning up after themselves at the end of each days work.

The crew did a meticulous job of taping and papering over every surrounding surface in both bathrooms, as well as removing or taping over the designer faucets, so that not one bit of spillover or spray-over onto the wood cabinets or floors or fixtures occurred at any point in the operation.

Next was the preparation of surfaces for the primer. This included a positively astounding job of filling all holes in that long abandoned Jacuzzi tube, so that one would think that they were never there. The entire surface of the tub was as smooth as glass. The process of surface preparation was not unduly noisy .... no ear-splitting grinding of surfaces with loud machinery was necessary. Relatively quiet sanding and smoothing equipment was used, as well as manual work to remove surface in perfections such as pits and scrapes and scars.

The initial coat of primer that must be placed on the surfaces (a rather shocking pink!) had a strong smell somewhat like airplane glue, but it was in no way irritating or toxic (not even to the delicate lungs of our 22 year old cat). The company used a large ventilating machine which sucked air from the work area through a sort of fabric wind tunnel, out a window some 25 feet from the work area. The smell of the primer application was noticeable throughout the house for a day or so (especially after returning to the house from a short absence), BUT no actual fumes were ever present at any time -- therefore there was no burning or itching of eyes or throat (even with us wearing contacts) and it was quite tolerable. If my frail 22 year old cat could do fine with this, I would certainly assume that infants would also. Although you might not want to have guests during this time, we easily survived the temporary odor of the primer.

The next step was application of the colored acrylic-epoxy-type surface, which is sprayed on. The color is beautiful. After drying the surfaces were buffed. Bottom line, the transformation is astounding. The tub and shower and all of the vanity surfaces are beautiful. There is no longer any grout as such .... only a smooth beautiful surface that exactly tracks the tiles and the grout lines without the grout! And there is a 5 year guarantee on the integrity of the surface. I highly recommend this contractor. "

"I found C and S Cabinets on Angie's list. I called and they came right away. I needed very large builtin bookcases in two rooms. It took about 6 weeks and they installed them. They are beautiful."

"Millie and Ray did an amazing job on our kitchen remodel! They saved us from a botch interior design job! They were patient with us choosing materials, and personalized our cabinets so well so this will be our forever home! And they worked well with my husband who is very diy, so we could be budget conscious (reason why the pics are unfinished). "

"Guys did a great job. Can't tell there was a repair done to the ceiling. They had to go to the store a couple times during the service call to buy the right sheetrock, but they were able to get the job done within the alloted time frame quoted."

"t's reassuring to find a company with good reviews as it should reflect a history of leaving their customers satisfied. However, I believe it is even more important to know how a company handles a problem with their service or product when the customer is not satisfied. If you have a problem after the job is completed will care? Will they return your calls? Will they do what's right? A company's actions when a customer is disatisified is the best measure of their quality of service. I hired a granite company to fabricate and install a custom linen cabinet, vanity, and granite. Douglas Cabinetry was that company's subcontractor for the cabinets. I had a few issues with the cabinets and discussed them with Justin. He was professional, reasonable, and a pleasure to deal with. It is clear that his main priority is customer satisfaction. The issues were resolved and I am completely happy with my cabinets. I highly recommend Douglas Cabinetry!"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Poolville, TX

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
