"Halpins did an excellent job for us.  We just showed up at the showroom one day to look at carpet and ceramic tile.  The sales staff was professional, knowledgeable and didn't apply pressure.  We took samples home to look at a couple of different times and finally made our selections.  Again, there was no pressure from Halpins to make a hasty decision.  The installers were very good and respectful of our time and valuables.  The install process went very smooth and after three months, we are so pleased that we did this and chose Halpins.  We would certainly use them again in the future. <br />"

"It was easy to schedule a quick appointment with Stanley Steemer and the crew called me right when they were supposed to.  Unfortunately they took 45 minutes to arrive after telling me they were on their way.  I learned later that they shouldn't have taken so long and that they must have stopped off elsewhere (for their own purposes).  Anyway, once they arrived they did a beautiful job of cleaning a very dirty carpet at a rental home my daughter lives in.  The crew were quick and professional.  I was very pleased except for the 45 minute wait. <br />"

"Finding a contractor who is highly professional and competent these days make me feel like winning the lottery -- Spencer Contracting lived up to its very high standards and our expectations.  Our master bath needed a serious makeover.  Jason Spencer and Brian Barron came to evaluate the work, took measurements and pictures, listen to our requests and made suggestions.  They came back with a detailed bid, explained every line and answered our questions thoroughly.   <br /> The work started on schedule: bathroom gutted and tiles removed (not a small feat).  The shower was totally rebuilt and I marveled at the detailed perfectionism of the project.  It was one of these rare occasions when you could go to sleep peacefully without worrying about a problem occurring in the process.  Brian was checking every phase and detail.   The workers (every single one of them) were professional and courteous, cleaning up at the end of each day.   I admired the precision of David installing tiles and with everything else he did -- he is a true perfectionist to the millimeter (amazing).  We used quartz counter tops and the installers were as amazing in professionalism. The project was finished on schedule and we still enjoy the final product.   <br /> This was a dream process and we will hire them back for any other renovation project we might have later. <br />"

"Our purple carpet had about 100 urine stains from previous dogs and our own. The specialist, Robert, matched to color and treated every spot. If we didn't know where they were, we'd never know they spots had been there. Perfect job!"

"Emerson did an amazing job with the vinyl plank through out my home. I couldn't be happier with it. They also did a customer shower and tub deck in my master bathroom. They were very helpful providing my many options for both projects. They worked hard to show me items that matched my vision. I couldn't be happier. The installers were on time and did a great job and the sale person followed up and inspected the work after it was completed."

"The store has so many items to choose from, it can seem intimidating at first.  Fortunately, the staff is patient and walked me through the various options.  They also gave me a great deal of practical and decorative advice. <br />  - <br /> The tile crew always arrived on time and worked quickly.  The remodeling took just over a week.  They were very careful with the furniture and did a fantastic job cleaning up. <br /> - <br /> They removed three layers of flooring in the kitchen, two in the dining room, and one in the living room. laundry room, and hallway.  The removal was very thorough and down to smooth foundation.  They removed two layers of kitchen backsplash and fixed a kitchen cabinet that was sagging due to age.  They removed cracked cultured marble showers, countertops, and sinks. <br /> - <br /> The bathroom floors and shower walls are now ICTC Iris Marmi crosscut porcelain.  The shower floors and decorative stripe are beautiful Bati Orient MAMI123 natural stones.  Schluter shower kits and niches were installed.  One shower has a built-in seat which is perfect for shaving legs and washing dogs. <br /> - <br /> The kitchen backsplash uses Daltile Sandalo ceramic mosaic tiles in 6"x6" squares with 2"x2" colorful tiles inset for decoration.  The patterns are custom cut and installed -- they did not come pre-cut, so we were able to chose any pattern we liked. <br /> - <br /> The new floors in the living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, and hallway are Florida Tile, Berkshire porcelain in the Hickory color.  Everyone who visits thinks they are real wood.  They are placed both straight in the living and laundry rooms, and diagonally with a border in the dining room.  In the kitchen, they are straight with a diagonal area bordered by diamonds around the island.  The doorway thresholds also have diamonds.  All of this was custom cut.  The new floors make the rooms look much larger, make the ceilings look higher, and add to the cottage/Acadian look of the home.  They are impervious to being scratched by my large dog's nails and they also hide shed fur well. <br /> - <br /> We chose quartz countertops for the bathrooms (Santa Margherita - Montana) and kitchen (Hanstone - Coral Mist).  They crafted a thick, seamless, rounded edge on the kitchen cabinets which covers some imperfections on the top edge of the 35-year-old wood. <br /> - <br /> The shallow kitchen and bathroom sinks were replaced by deep, under-mounted sinks that look much more modern and are easier to clean.  We replaced all sink and shower faucets at the same time and the installation of the new Moen faucets is perfect. <br /> - <br /> The tile floors are completely level.  I was able to stop using shims on my bookshelves.  The shoe molding is better looking than ever -- they installed it straighter and replaced any pieces that were in poor condition.  We have plenty of extra tiles in case we ever need to replace one.  They also left us with some spare grout in the proper colors. <br /> - <br /> Basically, they took a worn out, "best of the early 80's" house and turned it into a durable, modern Acadian home that will never go out of style.  I can't say enough about their professional manner and attention to detail. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Port Allen, LA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
