"Nathan was a joy to work with. He was very helpful with ideas to iinstall new outdoor light fixtures and gave us different options to replace older patio motion sensors which we immediately ordered. He offered to return and install them in a timely fashion. I will definitely recommend Harts Services to my neighbors and friends."

"Excellent! They explained why I could not get grass to grow well in my backyard: once they excavated, the soil contained lots of compact clay and rock, causing seeds to drown from watering. Once we locked in a date, they knocked it out relatively quickly, and gave me instructions on how to maintain the artificial grass going forward. The cost was very reasonable in comparison to the quotes I received from other contractors, and they did not charge me for leftover artificial grass, which they could have done. I recommend J&R Rockscapes without reservation!"

"Dan responded almost immediately to my email request for a site visit and was out within a few days to take a look. He made several recommendations and gave me an emailed bid based on the options we discussed. I met with 2 other local contractors (larger construction outfits) and both gave similar prices for the work to be done. We decided to hold off on the job for a few months until our financing was lined up and at that time I reached out to Dan a second time and asked him to come back and meet with both my husband and I to hash out details. He sat down with us and went over everything from lighting to size to color schemes and made recommendations. We agreed on a price, paid a deposit, and he started the permit application process. Our permit process became a huge ordeal thanks to the County and Dan was there every step of the way to make arrangements on our behalf and go to bat with them so we could get the deck we wanted. He measured every single square inch of the deck as he built it with precision and no detail was left untouched. He had to deal with odd weather situations (torrential downpours) and delays due to his supplier (misordered boards). Towards the end we did struggle a bit with getting timely communication from Dan on some final finish work but ultimately we got exactly the deck we paid for and get several compliments on it. In retrospect we should have set out a more concrete timeline as to start and finish of the project as it did take longer than expected. This was likely due to the fact that Dan built nearly every square inch of the deck by himself when we had assumed he had a larger crew."

"I cannot speak highly enough about Tony and his crew.  They are hardworking, very professional, and a pleasure to work with.  Tony was able to take some very vague descriptions that I had of what was not working in my yard, things I liked and didn't like about it, plants and materials that I liked and designed and executed a plan for my yard that met all my needs.  I had originally purchased a Big Deal for 40 hours of labor for $1249 and Tony and his crew were able to do nearly all of the above work within the 40 hours.  I paid an additional fee for an extra 10 hours and the materials, but I know that what I paid Tony overall was half of what other companies would charge.  My one recommendation:  If you're on a strict timeline, you should be clear and upfront with Tony to make sure he can complete the job on your schedule.  He's busy, but well worth the wait.  I wasn't in any rush, and didn't mind that several weeks went by without hearing from him. If that would bother you, let him know upfront.  I will not hesitate to hire Tony and his crew for my next landscaping project.

FAQs for outdoor lighting plan and installation projects in Poulsbo, WA

Permit requirements for outdoor lighting vary depending on your location and project scope. Simple fixture replacements don't require permits, but projects involving new electrical circuits, extensive trenching, or significant system expansions often do. Local building departments establish these requirements, and many professional electricians handle permit applications as part of their service package.

The timeline for outdoor lighting installation varies based on project complexity. Basic systems might require only one to two days for complete installation, while extensive lighting networks with numerous fixtures and complex wiring needs could extend to a week or longer. Weather conditions, property accessibility, and soil characteristics can all influence how quickly professionals can complete your installation.

Outdoor lighting offers both practical and aesthetic benefits that many homeowners find valuable. Beyond enhancing nighttime visibility and security, well-designed lighting can highlight architectural features and extend outdoor living hours. While installation represents a significant investment, quality lighting may potentially increase property appeal and could contribute to overall home value.

Some outdoor lighting projects are suitable for homeowner installation, particularly simple solar fixtures or low-voltage systems that plug into existing outlets. However, projects requiring new electrical connections, permanent wiring, or integration with home electrical systems demand professional expertise. Electrical work carries inherent safety risks, and improper installation could create fire hazards or code violations.

The operating cost for outdoor lighting depends primarily on your fixture types, bulb selection, and usage patterns. Energy-efficient LED fixtures consume significantly less electricity than traditional incandescent or halogen alternatives. Controlling your lighting with timers, photocells, or motion sensors can further reduce energy usage by ensuring lights operate only when needed or beneficial.
