"Thank you so much to R & B remodeling! I unfortunately had a basement flood and had to remove all of my flooring and one wall of my shower. R & B did an amazing job restoring my basement. They put in new flooring and baseboards. Re-dry walled parts of my ceiling and walls. Also re-tiled an entire wall of my shower. R & B was reliable and completed the job as agreed upon. They showed up each day to get the project done ASAP. I would 100% go with them again! "

"Wade does 95% of the work himself. Bid was more than fair for our project and there were no cost overruns. I was very pleased with the quality of the work and so was the city building inspector. Wade handled changes to the project when we had to move a door and stairs to a different wall midway through the project. We've already hired him for another project. "

"Exceptional service, very professional, very knowledgeable and honest from the initial contact to finishing the job! Very impressed with this company! My basement now looks great as they sealed the cracks to reduce the radon levels and lined the walls."

"Dean did a great job with the design of our master bathroom. He really listened to what we wanted and did a great job of designing a beautiful and functional bathroom within a budget we felt was very reasonable. Greg was in charge of executing this design and coordinating with others to get everything completed. The result is a bathroom that is more beautiful then I imagined it could be. The bathroom has the spa like feel of a high end hotel. I wondered why we waited so long to do this. When choosing a contracter for our bathroom remodel, I got several different estimates. The estimates varied considerably. I checked references and spoke with several neighbors who had used Red Box design. They were very happy with their work. We were happy as well and as such are very happy to recommend Red Box Design to anyone considering a remodeling project. My husband is an engineer and very particular that things are done correctly. He was too busy to tackle this project but was very happy to let Red Box take over."

"10lb weight restriction. This was extremely frustrating since we were told they would come on Tues. Overall, once the gentlemen arrived all of them were pleasant and courteous. Work went smoothly and they finished in 4 days. The concrete finish work is poor. This was especially discouraging as he guy old me he doesn't normally do concrete work. It seemed as if som of he workers weren't as knowledgable about the product, since they didn't have answers for questions I had. The first night after it was finished, we had a large rainfall. The basement is dry and with the dehumidifier running, I no longer smell mold. We looked in he drain ports and noticed water running the opposite direction of he sumps. Regardless, the basement is dry and water stayed out! We're glad we did it as the end result is a dry basement. However, there were issues we weren't happy with as stated above. Maybe we're just being picky, but we should-it was a lot of hard-earned money."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Preemption, IL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
