"Jimmy stopped by and gave me an estimate for the paving which seemed fair but I was waiting for a second bid. The company that was to give me a second bid came by and reviewed the work needed but never sent an email estimate. Jimmy did a follow up visit and we agreed on the price and he showed up on time and finished the job timely and the performance was excellent. I would definitely hire this company again,"

"
I contacted the contractor by phone. I explained that I wanted to take advantaged of the Angie's List Big deal that provided a driveway seal coating of up to 2,500 square feet for $338.00. I also explained that there was additional work that the driveway needed that was above and beyond the "Big Deal'. S & M sent a representative out and we discussed the particulars of the job. The 'rep' wrote up an estimate that included the "Big Deal' work as well as the additional I wanted done. I actually showed the 'rep' the 'Big Deal' that was on the Angie's List website before he wrote-up a contract. I read the contract before signing and I agreed to the terms. The contract outlined: the work to be performed; the amount to be paid for the total job ($520.00); an approximate start date; and described how the work would be done. I gave the contractor 'rep' a check in the amount of $520.00. As instructed, I made the check payable to the owner of S & W Paving and not to the company. I wanted the work to be complete while I was on vacation. That way I was sure no one would have to drive on the driveway while it was still 'wet'. S & M initially scheduled the job for Saturday, May 3rd, but didn't do the work until Monday, May 5. We got back home on May 14th.

My first impression of the completed driveway was one of disappointment. I had envisioned something else entirely different with a 'double' seal coating. I called the contractor and someone explained to me what a 'seal coating' actually is. I feel I received a much smaller measure of value for what was done. Had I known before hand what the result would have been, I would not have had the work done. I would have chalked this up as one of those 'live and learn' experiences, but for what has happened since.
When I tried to purchase this deal on the Angie's List website I was not certain that I had actually been able to do so. I didn't receive a confirmation that I had done so. In fact, I wasn't aware of this until I received correspondence from our credit card provider sometime in May. Fraudulent activity had occurred on our account, and the provider was issuing us new cards with a new account number. The correspondence also included a list of purchases made on the old account. A charge for Angie's List in the amount of $338.00 was one of the items listed. In my several conversations with Angie's List employees I have learned that S & M Paving was also paid by Angie's List for the "Big Deal". So, the contractor was in fact paid twice for the "Big Deal'. I contacted S & M paving in late May regarding this, and I was told by Peggy that they would be sending me a refund of $338.00. To date, I have received nothing.

"

"Accurate Asphalt did a fantastic job.... They didn't just pave a gravel driveway for us but the terraced the job to drain the water away from the house in a creative way. The owners stayed on the job to make sure that this creative solution was executed properly. The work crew paid incredible attention to detail even though this project was blacktop paving. Accurate Asphalt takes pride in their work and we would highly recommend them to anyone needing paving services."

"
The firm's president, Randy Alverson, arrived promptly, assessed our damp basement situation, and explained in great detail the various steps of the waterproofing process. He answered all of my questions and was so professional and reassuring that I broke my usual rule of getting at least 3 proposals for any home project, and decided to hire Chamberlin-Washington immediately. Of course, I had done my homework and read the firm's excellent reviews on numerous websites including Angle's List, which added to my confidence in my choice.

The Chamberlin-Washington crew was terrific and worked so hard under very chilly and damp conditions. They first removed all of the plants/shrubs from our front borders, carefully wrapping the roots in order to preserve them. An 8 + -foot trench then had to be dug along the front of our house, to the bottom of the foundation, in order to begin the waterproofing process. They worked very carefully, addressing one half of the foundation at a time (including under our front porch, which was undisturbed). The crew realized that our home's exterior foundation was very rough and uneven, which meant that it wouldn't be a receptive surface for the waterproofing membrane. Mr. Alverson came back to our house to explain the additional steps that were needed to smooth the foundation out before the waterproof membrane could be applied: grind down the rough foundation, install stainless steel wall ties, install wood forms and pour a 4" thick concrete layer to even up and consolidate the foundation. He made sure that we understood what was going to happen, and explained that though this was an unusual step to have to take, they had done it before for with some older homes such as ours (built circa 1925). This extra step of preparation added an additional 50% to the original fee, but it had to be done. Once the waterproofing layer was finally in place, they tested it by spraying water onto the foundation for an hour, with one person carefully monitoring the process inside our basement to make sure that no water was leaking through.

Ultimately, Chamberlin-Washington was able to thoroughly waterproof the front foundation of our home, and we have had no further water problems whatsoever. We were extremely impressed with Mr. Alverson and his crew -- very professional, punctual and thorough. I highly recommend this firm to anyone whose home needs similar waterproofing work. I should also add that Chamberlin-Washington honored the 10% discount for Angie's List members -- a nice touch.

"

"
The entire experience from beginning to end was hassle free. Mike was punctual, professional, and a pleasure to work with. He returned my calls, was there when he said he would be, and did the work without incident. He even gave me an added bonus by tinting the roof paint the color of my shutters, which looks great!! I would highly recommend Mike!! A++

"

"Warmzone has been very responsive. However, the installers made mistakes installing the system and when they went to correct it, somehow caused damage that made the system inoperable. They had to come back a year later and redo it. Now it works pretty good. Every time I've had questions Warmzone has been very responsive. i would use them again--but use their recommended installers and not my contractors who did it last time.
One caveat: The system doesn't always work perfectly in very cold weather with fast accumulating snow. We have old-fashioned clay brick pavers. Next time I'll send Warmzone a sample of the pavers so that they can test for the power needed to operate the system effectively.
But--they sell a great product and they're very helpful to deal with. They'll get right on the phone with you and troubleshoot, even long after the sale.
"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Princess Anne, MD

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
