"Angelo & team were amazing to work with. From design to implementation, it was a smooth experience. We had the same crew working at our house every day- the guys were friendly, polite, tolerated my 5 year old daughter asking them what they were doing each day (LOL). Their work was top notch- no corners cut. Every day they left my house clean, nothing left out- all materials put away and the rooms were safe for my kids and dog to be in. We couldn’t be happier with the work done. "

"We had an excellent experience with Monk's from start to finish. Ward and team were prompt, gave us an accurate estimate of the cost and timeline needed for the garage stairs remodel, and Ward made some valuable suggestions to improve the functionality of the remodel. The work was done very professionally, the Monk's team was finished in less than a day and left the job site immaculately clean. I would be very pleased to work with Monk's on future home improvement projects. "

Customers say: Quality work

"JM did a fantastic job. About 13 years ago, while living at our previous residence: JM remodeled and modernized our full Kitchen, two full bathrooms and, after many tries by other contractors, he was able to stop a leak from our roof at no charge. About 10 years ago, at our current residence , JM remodeled and modernized our full kitchen and did a unique job of updating 4 large sliding closet doors. He removed the cheap inserts, and replaced them with 1/4” high quality plywood into the frames. He then, using wood molding, he made the face of the doors look like real wood doors. Doors were stained and look like expensive oak doors! JM comes up with excellent suggestions, alternatives, and expense saving ideas. We plan on relying on his expertise when we’re ready to upgrade our Patio. All the best to JM Group!"

"Service was great from sales, to installation, to post installation support. Very responsive, very professional. It's hard to find in this 'space'--there are a lot of shady people in basement water damage/repair, and this place exceeded expectations. We've had our repair in place for 4+ years, with only 1 small issue on a wall seam crack, and that was fixed within 24 hours of reporting the issue. Stand up place! Thank you for such great service and support."

"Perfect. No other words needed. On time. Polite. Professional. Worked like dogs all day. Knew exactly what they were getting themselves and how to get it done. I will definitely hire them again for my next project."

"We had several rooms with sagging, cracking plaster ceilings and not enough lighting. We also had one bedroom that had a huge chunk of damaged plaster in the ceiling from an old leak. We contracted with M&M to redo these three ceilings. When they opened the ceilings downstairs, they found that the reason for the sagging ceilings was because of some old construction that left the upper floors without enough support. The project turned into a much bigger deal than we originally expected, and M&M handled it all beautifully. The put in new supports, made the house safer, repaired everything, and now our ceilings are beautiful."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Randolph, NJ

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
