"We have a strange leak in our basement that recurs every time it rains. To figure out the potential source, we called Alpha Structural, and the entire team was outstanding from the get-go. Lisa Hunter first took a detailed account of and keen interest in our situation, and then Gary Coffing came to inspect our house. Gary possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge about foundation and structural integrity, and gave us a very fair assessment of what might be happening, and what we could and should try first. Rather than make a hard sell to engage Alpha in a major investigation, he suggested we first try a few simpler solutions, including fixing the grading of our soil leading to the basement as well as our gutters. Perhaps this won't work and perhaps it will, but the point is he gave us a full account of what may be happening and a number of specific things to try before pulling the trigger on a major structural ordeal. A HUGE thank you to Gary and the whole team. We hope it doesn't come to it, but if we do need to go down the route of major structural work, we will absolutely call you again."

"Make it Drain does amazing work! They know what they are talking about and they fit you into their schedule right away. They can handle all things plumbing related and only use the best quality materials when they have to do replacements. We had our main sewer line from the street back up. They ran a camera and discovered we had major root intrusion and the clay pipe had begun to separate. They dug an 8ft hole down to the problem area, ran a liner through the clay pipe and replaced the connection. We are so thankful to no longer have to worry about our plumbing backing up. We will be calling Marc and Ean for all of our future plumbing needs. This was a big job and I’ve never felt more confident in hired contractors. They are excellent to work with!"

"We had a small basement flood from a backed up toilet and/or tub. Benny was punctual and professional. He rootered out the roots and got us flowing well again. He also looked at where leaking had occurred and determined that the main drain line was the culprit and our other plumbing was working correctly. <br />"

"Ken and his crew did a fantastic job! I have a 1962 built 1500 square foot house that needed a full repipe job. I wanted the heavier type L copper piping, which is what he provided. The total cost of the job included repiping the house through the attic. We needed to drop pipes through four walls so they had to cut through the drywall in four rooms. Ken and his crew did an excellent job as did Ken's drywall man Francisco. Francisco not only patched the holes, but matched the wall texture so you cannot tell there was any work performed on the walls. We repainted the walls ourself to save money. Besides the repiping, I wanted to add two hose bibs where they did not currently exist. The cost also included repiping from the city meter to the house. To do this Ken cut and replaced a one foot portion of our cement walkway which fixed an uneven area of cement that had become a safety hazard. He did this at no additional charge. The cost also included adding a new pressure regulator at the front of the house. They also attached the strapping to my water heater that I had just replaced but had not yet installed and completed the copper piping to the T&P valve. The full repiping took 2 1/2 days. I had to wait about a week for Francisco to come out and finish the drywall because he was so booked up with work, but it was well worth the wait. Ken was a pleasure to work with and he went the extra mile to make sure everything was what I wanted, and was done correctly. He even fixed a couple of faucets and replaced a faulty bath tub spout at no additional charge. I highly recommend Allison Plumbing for your repiping!"

"Alex was able to stop by quickly and started work quickly. He was able to use a snake to loosen the stoppage, and put a camera down where he found roots in our pipe. For this we were charged $500. He does not offer digital copy of the footage (this is a common practice in the industry that I don't like). He was unable to cut the roots as the blades for his snake would not fit through the pipes under the house, and we had no clean out access. He offered to take care of the roots and install a clean out for an additional $1,000. We were able to find another licensed plumber to install a clean out, remove the root, and replace the damaged portion of the pipe for a significantly lower price. Alex is extremely knowledgeable about plumbing, water heaters, and the proper codes. However, I don't appreciate his alarmist attitude toward everything, which I assume is his way of justifying his work and the prices. I don't need to be told the sky is falling when I'm already dealing with backed up toilets."

"<p>I had several plumbing jobs that needed to be done and I had been procrastinating for way too long. I called Cody and asked if he could come by for an estimate. He was able to squeeze me in the next day, AND he showed up right on time. My home is 30 years old and none of the bathroom fixtures had ever been replaced. There was a lot of rust and corrosion inside the fixtures and several were not working. Cody checked the showers, toilets and bathroom sinks and gave me an estimate of $703.00. The only thing I needed to buy was the fixtures for the sinks, but he supplied all other parts and fixtures. Because of my work hours, I thought I would have to wait a couple of weeks before I could schedule the work, because my schedule is so inflexible, but Cody offered to come by at 5pm just a couple of days later so I wouldn't have to take time off of work to get the repairs done. Cody and Anthony showed up on right at 5pm on the scheduled day and they had all of he work completed in 3 hours. Since he had to caulk the shower fixture, and it would take 6 hours to dry, he offered to caulk one, and come back the next day to caulk the other so we could use at least one shower tonight. I told him it was no big deal, since we all shower in the morning anyway, but it was very considerate of him to offer. When he checked my dishwasher, he found out that the person who originally installed it did no do it correctly and this was what was causing the problems (HUGE relief, because I was afraid I was going to have to buy a new dishwasher). </p> <p>After all of the work was completed, he advised me that the total would only be $675.00, not $703.00 because it turned out the sink fixtures I purchased came with supply lines attached, so he didn't need to charge me for them. I was very impressed with his honesty and professionalism. Cody an Anthony provided amazing customer service, were accommodating of my schedule and respectful of my time, they completed the work quickly and at a fair price. I highly recommend them.</p> <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Redlands, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
