"Dealing with Steve was wonderful. Very responsive, told me what and when to expect what. The installation went fine but there was a broken clip on my bed frame from when they moved it. Some seams are also a little more noticeable than I thought they would be after just a few months. They did give me the best price for the same carpet as their competitors."

"The first thing that's great is that they will pick up and deliver your carpets in the early evening -- you don't have to stay home from work.  And they are VERY punctual.  The second thing that's great is the quality of the work they do.  Our rugs look 100% better as a result of their care -- not just cleaning, but repairing frayed edges.  They also managed to somehow brighten up the colors in one of the rugs that is a dark blue with some red. <br />"

"What a GREAT experience from start to finish. We had the Carpet Man install out living room and two stairways. The two brothers arrived on time and ready to work. They were polite, efficient and new their job completely. Vacuumed and cleaned up when finished, they even offered to move all our furniture back in place. Imad and his father at the store were very helpful. If you need carpet they are fair, have a large selection and very professional. "

"Their rep was extremely helpful in selecting a color and figuring out the best width of carpet to minimize seams that might trip one of our little kids. The only problem was that their rep had said the installers would glue the wooden strips to our concrete basement floor. The installers showed up and started hammering them into our concrete basement floor, which is not ideal. Apparently gluing the wooden strips requires doing the glue requires coming one day, and then coming another day to actually put down the carpet. Hopefully the nails in the concrete floor won't cause moisture problems... Otherwise they were great; the result looks great."

"Great, couldn't have been happier! Timely, flexible, polite, responsive, at a very competitive price. We were prepared to pay up to $350 for Kilz treatment before installation of the new carpet, but they didn't use a lot, so they didn't charge us at all"

"Kevin and Patrick were extremely helpful in advising and guiding us through selection and purchase of our rails and carpeting. Their professional knowledge of the product and how it is installed really helped us in our selection. They went the extra mile in explaining all the features of the carpeting. Also, we sought their services to install flooring and they answered all our questions on the types of flooring available and guided us in selecting the right type of floor for our downstairs level. We are very pleased with level of service and attention they have provided!"

"We ordered a rug from Carpet Yard in 2012 and then had them install some wall-to-wall carpeting in our basement in 2013. In both cases they were nice, responsive, and easy to deal with. They let us bring swatches home for a week or so to compare in our space, were easy to get on the phone, and had good availability for scheduling delivery and installation. We shopped around a little and I found their prices to be somewhat higher then the national companies, but then again, they didn't demand that I order the carpets on the same day I got the estimate like one of the other places I looked at. A slightly higher price seemed like a fair exchange for better service and for supporting a local store."

"Waited several months for the special order, but they warned me about it from the get-go. Installation went smoothly and quickly; moved all furniture carefully; made recommendation regarding best position of carpet in relation to position of furniture in the room; recommended cleaning dos and don'ts.  Very professional and they know carpets.  Not the cheapest in town, but quality and service are worth it. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Ridge, MD

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
