"Installation went pretty good, was done over a 2 day time frame to give us time to move furniture around. Overall satisfied, but there are some areas on outside wall corners where the installers just dropped the carpet into place and allowed the rough backing to scratch and peel paint off our walls, some areas as high as 3 feet off the ground. Also, seams at doorways are pretty visible, more than our previous carpet installation. It could partly be the style of carpet, but we were led to believe this carpet would have nearly invisible seams which just is not the case."

"<p>I had had a previous kitchen remodel thru Lowes and was very happy with sales department and installation, so I went back for bathroom remodel. I didn't want a fiberglass shower so I ordered a product called Onyx. I was assigned an installer. I was told some of the products I had ordered would come directly to my home. When I received these products the installation could start. I received a large crate which was supposed to contain my toilet-a special order toilet due to a special rough-in. We only have one bathroom so we needed to have all of the products on hand so we could at least have a functioning toilet by the end on the first day. I was assured I would. When the shower surround finally arrived-at Lowes, not my house-we started the installation. We told the installer that we were going to reuse the vanity. When the installer started the installation I went out of the area to let him work. When I came back a few hours later, the bathroom had been striped out. The tub had been trashed as expected, but the vanity and sink had been thrown out with it. I recovered the vanity and cleaned it. I had told him three times that we were going to save the vanity. He then started to lay the sheet flooring. This went OK until he came to the bathroom door. instead of doing a proper stop before the carpeting in the hall, he ran the flooring over the threshold and glued the vinyl to the hall carpet. He said he was going to put another threshold over the glued up carpet. He then started to install the toilet. We had not opened the crate containing the toilet. I figured if something was wrong we couldn't be blamed if the crate was still intact. It turned out that there was no tank with the toilet. The installation manager scrambled to find a replacement toilet and the toilet was installed. The next day the shower installation team showed up. They didn't like the drywall work the first installer had done so it had to be redone. The shower walls were then put I, but part of the shower shelf had been smashed in transit. There is a three week wait time for delivery of this part so I said to just finish the shower without the shelf. The first installer came back to finish the job. The toilet functioned just fine, but there was a leak under the shower base. He'd drilled thru the base edge when he installed the shower door. He had also installed the shower bypass style door the inside out. My husband checked the shower drain and found it was leaking and the installer hadn't checked the drain. I told Lowes installation service department about the problems and they sent the first installer out to fix them. I let him fix the problems but when he wanted to slap that threshold over my hall carpet, I asked him to leave. Lowes finally sent out flooring installers to fix the problem. I thought this was a simple installation and I never expected so many problems. I think my installer had very little experience. I'm glad I was on site for the installation because either I or my husband could catch the problems....I don't have any more work to do as far as remodeling. I loved Lowes for my kitchen...the bathroom...not so much. <br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"Jack Laurie had to subcontract the floor refinishing.  I have the say that the refinisher did a great job sanding and prepping my floor! I love the stain and the top coating he put on has so far been very durable.  I have dogs in the house and needed something that would somewhat withstand their claws. The refinisher took a few days longer than first estimated, but I know that can happen.  He sort of dropped the ball on the finish work - in some areas around the edges the workmanship was bad.  Jack Laurie had to call in a second refinisher to repair the mistakes of the first one. So all in all, not a real satisfactory job BUT Jack Laurie stayed with it until the job was done. The carpet installation went much more smoothly and looks good. I have no issues there at this point. It has only been two weeks but so far it seems to be holding up. They were prompt with installing as soon as the product was here, showed up when they said they would, and got the job done quickly. I am not sure about the price point - I think they might run in the middle of the pack on pricing."

"We absolutely love the new tile! It is beautiful and was very reasonably priced. We had budgeted more than the final cost, even after adding upstairs bathroom. The installers were friendly, courteous and performed excellent work. They went to great lengths to contain any mess and cleaned up promptly after the work was completed. <br />"

"It was by far the best service we've ever received from a service provider! I happened to meet Mr Wallace at the local Sherwin -Willams paint store during a Sunday afternoon supply run. As we both were waiting for an available sales clerk we chatted and Mr Wallace was a wealth of information on home improvement "how to" advice. As we parted I casually asked if he knew of contractors willing to do our small job. I was at this point, in a panic because the day before I learned my daughter, her fiancé, their pets and all of their belongings would be moving back home as they both got jobs in Indy! We had two bathrooms and two bedrooms in the throws of remodel caos and the contractor we thought would be available had just informed us our project was now scheduled to start in October! (we got his estimate in April for July start date, not October!....another story, another review) Mr Wallace surprised me when he said he owned a home repair company could help. I asked when can you start? When he said "Friday", I could have kissed him! This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Mr Wallace stopped by that week to look over our projects. During his first visit he continued to give me helpful advice on painting, flooring and general "contractor" insider tips. His pricing was very competitive and the scoop of work left NOTHING overlooked! On the agreed start day Mr Wallace arrived with his crew and walked them through all of the planned work. He returned that evening to check on the progress, in fact Mr Wallace checked on the progress and quality of the work everyday of the three day job. With his guidance we also performed the tasks we needed to do, in the evenings, to be ready for the tradesmen arriving next. Over the past four months we have undergone several home improvement projects: landscaping, exterior house painted, foundation and masonry work, plumbing, whole house carpet cleaning, roof and window work... a total of 10 service providers, with over 30 dudes and dudettes working on my property! Without a doubt Wallace Construction Group was by far the most professional, most helpful, most trustworthy, most respectable. Wallace Construction Group provided the best quality, best price, best service and the best "frontman" ever...Marc Wallace! <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Roanoke, IN

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
