"Emerald Landscaping created a beautiful front yard for us which was basically nothing but mud prior to their work. They installed a combination of River rock, sod and mondo grass. A superb job!!! Office personnel was extremely friendly and helpful every part of the way."

"Mason and his team did a wonderful job. It was a complex job to build a garage with the dimensions of my garage and they did everything. They lined the entire interior with tongue and groove wood panels, which look great. They were prompt and reliable and the work itself was superior. I'd highly recommend using them for your construction needs. Mason takes great pride in his work and was very responsive throughout the process."

"Contacted Dave to discuss leveling a portion of our backyard to install a shed. Dave was available the next day to provide a quote. I had a few ideas on how he could level the yard, but he had some great ideas that saved us money and materials. Dave was available to start work within a few days and it was evident he was really experienced with excavation. He was extremely professional and meticulous and took care to not damage our grass. He leveled the soil, laid a base of stone, graded the soil to the rest of the existing yard, and seeded the disturbed soil. He cleaned up everything really well, leaving the space better than when he arrived. It turned out even better than we expected. I highly recommend DZ's Construction for excavation services, and I will definitely use him in the future."

"This is the second project we’ve done with Tillerman Gardens and again, they’ve exceeded my expectations. I had my flagstone patio extended and a walkway added to my back entryway. Jesse had some creative ideas to incorporate the walkway - he came up with a gorgeous design that I would never have envisioned or had the insight to drum up myself. The execution was seamless - his team was prompt and efficient everyday, and the end result is absolutely beautiful. Now I want more things done. This type of quality work completely transformed my space. Worth every penny."

"Steve Norfolk and his crew dug down to the footing and applied the waterproof material a section at a time.  The original plan was to dig the entire area first and then apply the waterproof material all at the same time.  However daily torrential rains turned the area into a sea of mud, so he decided to do it a section at a time to minimize problems associated with the rain.  He had to break up a concrete slab (porch) for 1/2 the front, and approximately 25 feet of driveway next to the house.  Progress was slow due to the rain and mud, but Steve steadfastly pursued the completion of the job despite the setbacks.  Although justifiably discouraged by the rain and lack of progress, he exhibited a positive "can do" attitude and kept at it.  The finished product was professionally done.  Backfill and all concrete were properly completed, and grass seed applied.  Steve is a conscientious professional who knows his business and can be relied upon to do the work he says he will accomplish.  I would use him again in a heartbeat.

"When we were looking at contractors for our project, we met five contractors and received five estimates.  There were a couple places where Suncrest really stood out.  First, they were the only contractor to provide a detailed estimate that allowed us to see how much each item would cost.  This made it easy for us to determine what things we could do ourselves and what was worth getting their help with.  Second, they were the only contractor to get ALL details of the project right in the estimate.  A lot of other contractors gave us estimates for items never discussed and failed to provide estimates for crucial items.  Third, when we did a walk through with John (Suncrest Builders President), we mentioned we wanted the renovated space to have hardwood floors.  Every other contractor said, "Yes, we can give you hardwood floors".  John was the only one to say, "Why do you want hardwood floors?  You have a concrete slab and hardwood floors wouldn't be the best choice."  We appreciated that he didn't just tell us what we wanted to hear, but instead provided solid advice.

Through out the project,  Suncrest hired three separate sub-contractors: demolition, concrete, and flooring.  All the subcontractors they used were very clean, efficient, hardworking and professional.  For the demo and concrete, there seemed to be a significant delay in getting the subcontractors to our house.  The demo crew showed up 4 days later than planned.  The concrete crew showed up 3-4 weeks after planned.  The first two tasks of our project were demo and concrete, so at the beginning there were a few weeks where our house was sitting with no work being done.

Suncrest performed the framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and trim installation with their own staff. Everyone was extremely skilled, detailed orientated, and respectful.  There weren't as many delays to the project when Suncrest's employees were scheduled to work on our house.  Any delays were due to the nature of the project and not because they didn't show up.

Through out the project, we had very little difficulty getting ahold of John or Bryan (our Project Manager).  If we didn't get ahold of them the first time, 95% of the time they returned our calls/emails within 24 hours.  This was more than enough communication to make sure we could have our questions answered and feel comfortable with how the project was progressing.

During our project, there were a couple areas where Suncrest really shined.  First, we redid the floors in our kitchen.  The original floors were tile.  The tile needed to be removed and all the grout and tile adhesive had to be removed.  Due to the unexpected difficulty of removing larger pieces of grout, the tile removal took longer than expected, which meant the new floor installation was also delayed.  After Suncrest realized how difficult the tile was to remove, they had everyone at our house making sure EVERYTHING was ready so the flooring installation wasn't delayed any further.  Bryan (Project Manager) was on his hands and knees scraping off the grout vigorously.  Second, we had Suncrest install a light fixture on our home's exterior.  After the first attempt, we were not satisfied with the way the light was installed.  We called Bryan to have him take a look.  He also agreed that it was not acceptable.  The same day, he was out there fixing the light himself until we were satisfied.  By the time he was done, it couldn't have looked more perfect.  In both of these situations, Suncrest showed they will do what it takes to get the job done and will listen to feedback to make sure the end result is perfect for their client.

Overall, our experience with Suncrest was excellent.  We had little difficulty in getting ahold of them when we had questions.  They addressed any concerns we had.  The end product was exactly what we asked for and looks amazing.  There were some delays, but if you look at reviews for other contractors on Angie's List, you'll see that it's incredibly common.  After this experience, I look forward to working with Suncrest again on our future home renovations.

"Everything went well. We had a miscommunication on the time-frame for the appraisal, but as soon as he got here he was pleasant, measured the work area, addressed my questions and gave me a quote on the spot. This was one of three well-rated companies that I contacted - one only emailed me back once and the other came in at about $800 higher. Note that this work did not include removing old materials that had to be pulled up(old railroad ties and paver stones) but that was not a concern for me. They were able to complete the work within less than a week of my signing the contract, came early on a Monday morning and managed to finish in one day. The team consisted of the owner, his son and a worker, so I felt confident that the work was being done as promised. The patio looks great - basic and what I requested.  They even moved fill dirt and some pavers to cover our drainage pipe to look neater. They let me know that the neighbor's gutter was directing water right into our yard and made attempts to compensate for it. I look forward to enjoying it this summer and would recommend them.

FAQs for building site preparation and clearing projects in Rockville, MD

A professional team can clear an acre of land in as little as two to twelve hours, depending on your land's condition. You'll need to consider factors like vegetation density, terrain features, and obstacles such as trees, stumps, rocks, or existing structures can increase the time required. If your land is heavily wooded or has uneven terrain, expect the process to take longer and require more effort.

If you're looking to clear land for a pasture, expect to pay between $400 and $600 per acre for forestry mulching or $500 to $5,600 per acre for conventional land clearing. When choosing a method, consider:

  • Forestry Mulching: Leaves organic material in the soil, promoting new ground cover growth.

  • Conventional Clearing: You might lose valuable topsoil during this process.

A land-clearing project typically involves several key steps to prepare your property for construction or landscaping. First, assess your land and obtain any necessary permits from your local building department. Then, professionals use specialized equipment to remove trees, stumps, brush, and vegetation. After clearing, they haul away debris and may perform grading to level the land, ensuring it's ready for your intended use.

Preparing land to build a house typically costs between $1,000 and $4,000, depending on your land's size and condition. This includes clearing space for the foundation, which may involve removing trees, stumps, brush, and leveling or grading the site. Don't forget to budget for additional costs like permits, fees, and installing utility connections such as gas lines, water lines, and sewer mains.
