"Good work in general; our basement no longer sees water for over 3 years now, which is the most important thing. But there were some real issues: The biggest issue is that USW did not adhere to local electrical codes, and did not arrange for a final inspection of the project. So we didn't find out that it wasn't to code until years later, and now it's a big hassle and minor cost to fix and get the permits. Ask your local gov yourself what you need to do for permits and inspections; don't rely on USW! USW said they would seal any foundation cracks found along the way; they didn't do this until I bugged the warranty dept about it (but they did do it eventually). USW sent someone out for the "annual checkup"... over 2 years after the install. It's a good thing they (eventually) did, because they discovered the backup battery wasn't charging. Now I know to check this stuff better myself. Prices also vary wildly and are kind of negotiable (I'd give more detail but I'm out of space)"

"Birch responded promptly to our call on a Monday morning after the city had to come out and turn off the water the night before, due to a break in the line underneath the basement floor coming from the meter.  He quickly evaluated the scope of the problem, but was going to be backed up with prior jobs for a while,  and gave us suggestions for a couple of other possible plumbers. When neither of the others were able to respond promptly, and we had been without water for two days,  I called Birch back and he agreed to work the job in the next day. The plumbers arrived by 8:45 the following morning, as promised, got right to work and were done shortly after noon. They turned the water back on and tested everything to make sure all faucets and lines were working properly, and  all was good. We very much appreciate Birch working this job into a tight schedule this week, and are happy with the work.   "

"We scheduled an appointment and they were on time and were professional. They listened to my ideas and measured the basement. Before they came out they provided me a booklet with the materials they use and how their design is different than others. The scheduling process was simple and quick. Now with that said the reason I give them a C overall is because of their price. The price they quoted me for 1100 square feet with a standard remodel no custom things was twice as expensive as the other companies that quoted me on my space. The cost was in the range of 75-80K. That is almost the price of building a new home. I was disappointed at the fact that they thought that’s was a fair price. Others quoted me between 35-40K."

"Nick and the Dry Otter crew do fantastic work. Everything from beginning to end was top notch. The estimate was true, the work was done well and on time, and the result of the project is perfect. I live on the East Side of Madison and have had water seeping into my basement for years now. Dry Otter trenched all the way around my basement and installed a sump pump. I've been thinking of doing this project for years and met with all of the local companies that do this, and I'm very glad that I picked Dry Otter for the project. I was definitely nervous about possibly having to rip out the existing basement stairs as part of the job, but these guys were able to preserve the existing stairs which saved me from a huge additional cost. I'd recommend anyone to strongly consider this company for a sump pump installation. They answered all of my questions after the job and even sent someone after the project was done to tighten a nut on the water meter that was slowly leaking. Now I'm turning half of my basement into a chill out zone for the kids and keeping the other half as a utility basement. Our house just became way better. Probably the best thing I can say about this crew is that they are honest business people that stand by their work. Expect a job done well, on time, and at a reasonable price."

"I went to basement only to discover water standing in basement floor, clogged floor drain. I phoned Roto Rooter and within an hour they arrived at the house. James cleaned out floor drain and standing water from basement. He was extremely tidy in cleaning up the floor. Carefully explained to me how this occurred and how to prevent future problems. <br />"

"We couldn't be happier! Alliance performed work on our home in early March, the week before we moved in - there were known foundation cracks, and the inspection also revealed a small amount of mold. From the first phone call, to the initial eval and quote, to the completion of work - everything was timely and professional. We elected to have them gut the small lower level (of our tri-level home), and are thankful we did - rotten floorboards and an additional crack were discovered. We were called and consulted prior to them doing some additional work that was required. The cracks were repaired, the containment process was excellent, and the work area was completely cleared of debris and was left tidy when they were finished. Then, all we had to do was wait for some torrential rain to see if the repairs worked! It is now June, and we've had 2 days of heavy rain - the type of rain that previously caused there to be water all over the lower level (this home was known to us for several years prior to purchase from a family member). I'm so thrilled to report that although our side yard is a lake (which normally meant that so was the basement), our basement is completely dry! Not a drop. We are so happy that we feel safe finishing the lower level now, and have some wonderful additional living and storage space. The cost for repair was 100% worth it. Thank you so much for everything!"

"Boy oh boy we had a complicated situation with our sink. Kept running into issues and Terry made several trips back and forth to our home. He brought our old sink to a mechanic he knew and the guy made our sink like brand new. Terry didn’t have to do this for us but he went over and above. He’s nice and personable and with an extremely busy schedule still got it all done. We would hire him again!! A+++"

"We met with the estimator/salesman Kevin who inspected the entire area, performed measurements and then reviewed the cost proposal in detail with us. He was very knowledgeable and thorough, explaining the process in layman's terms so we had a good understanding of what was needed and why. It was nice to get an idea of the cost right away instead of waiting days/weeks for an estimate. We secured estimates from other contractors and we decided on Tri-State due to the overall cost, professionalism and good reviews/references. Tri-State was able to schedule the job within a couple weeks. They provided us great preparation information so our basement would be ready for them to begin the work without delay. The crew worked over a two day period, keeping dust/mess to a minimum. All team members were professional and worked hard during the process. Clean up of the basement, staircase and outside area was excellent and additional instructions were given to us upon their departure. We have had several good rains since install and have had no water/wetness in the basement. Will edit the review accordingly to let members know how the system worked after a year or so."

"Great service! Mike helped explain the problem and installed the right pump for our home. We have a drain in the driveway that goes to our water collection bin. A regular pump would’ve gotten clogged with some of the debris from the driveway drain. He installed an ejector pump and it works like a dream. Thank you!!!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Roscoe, IL

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
