He intially suggested the possibility of our installing a water pump to prevent that problem from happening again, but after taking a look at our sewer line he said the cost of something like that would be around 2K and we could probably avoid a major sewer overflow with regular annual maintenance of the sewer line. He also suggested that if we were ever concerned we could call to have the line snaked before or even during a big rainstorm (like Hurricane Sandy.) Now that we know he has his own company our co-op plans to contact him for future repairs!
