"Their sales people were very professional and very helpful. The installation took a little bit longer than expected, which seems to be normal in the contracting world. They did a good job. I did call them for some issues because there were some gaps in some parts, but they did come back and filled that in, and made that right."

"<p><br /></p> <p>We did not work with an enthusiastic designer since almost all choices were our own and we were not met with suggestions that were of any major help. The selection of products was excellent. We would use this company in the future but would prefer to work with another sales person/designer who would be more interested in our project. The sales person did come to our home to do measurements as requested.</p> <p>Installers were prompt and very friendly. They kept us informed of any suggestions and possible changes as they moved along the way. Returned full box of supplies we did not need for credit. We believe they were sub-contractors for the retail business.</p> <p><br /></p> <br />"

"The installer arrived at the specified time. The estimated time of two and a half days for removal and installation was accomplished. The installer was professional, friendly and very helpful. The flooring was exactly as had been explained. The owner Holly answered our every question as did Rigel the installer. Rigel (and his helper, Chris) was very careful to move the furniture and piano so as not to cause damage. The entire project was a service extremely well done. The total cost was quite reasonable."

"I needed a piece of heavy duty carpet for an area rug for my sewing room and called Elegant Floors as they had installed beautiful wool carpet in our bedrooms last Fall and the experience had been very positive.  When we stopped in the store, Michelle remembered us and was very helpful in choosing an appropriate product, explaining the differences in carpets and what would be a good selection for my use.  The one we chose was in stock so they bound it and delivered it the next day - Sean even helped to move the furniture and roll it out.  Great service and wonderful to work with. <br />"

"This was the most money we have ever paid anyone to do anything...ever. The Sheridans had our trust throughout the entire process. They gave an affordable quote and did awesome work. They cleaned up during each stage of the project and always communicated well with me about timing and issues that came up. Our garage dimensions were awkward and not a perfect rectangle by any means - these guys had to craft a kit of workarounds for irregular shapes and curves. Todd and Luke are good human beings with positive attitudes, and care about their integrity and their work. I hope to use them in the future."

"Reviewed numerous windows prior to purchasing. The "Vista" brand window purchased from Bonnette's arrived in perfect shape and exactly as ordered. Very high quality window which cost more than others but it has made a big difference in saving heat. No drafts at all. 1 1/2 yrs later still looks and functions as new. Bonnettes were very good to deal with, explained exactly all options on the window, and quoted detailed pricing. I installed it myself. <br /> <br />"

"Jack and his crew did an excellent job. My location is somewhat difficult in several respects. One side of the house faces Lake Champlain and the only access to that side is from the deck. There is no ground on which to stage ladders but they made it work. Parking is also an issue and they were able to bring their trailer and place it in a location that allowed the neighbors access to their property. Sounds confusing but this is "rural Vermont" <br /> The job was a day and half. They cleaned up carefully making sure all nails and old shingles were picked up and removed. Everyone was polite and professional. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Saint Albans, VT

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
