"Service person, emptied the drain right under the sink (where the clog was). It was very expensive for the work that was done and the time involved. The drain was cleared and I have not had a problem since."

"I hired permajack due to a recommendation from my concrete guy. My foundation was sinking all around the perimeter. They offered a permanent solution and delivered. This was not a fun purchase but it was very necessary. Foundation repair is expensive, so Im pleased that these guys were on time, experienced and pleasant to work with. They cleaned up after themselves and the President of the company called me to follow up to make sure everything was delivered as promised. I highly recommend them. They were professional, respectful of my property and didnâ t waste my time. This can be rare in construction these days. Good well done!"

"Zoom Drain showed up as scheduled. My technician was highly professional and explained the drain clearing process and options to me. They quickly and professionally cleared my clog without making a mess in my home. As I was concerned that my clog was an indication of a drain collapse or tree root issue in my lateral, I chose to have or my drain scoped. Their excellent drain camera gave me a great view of the condition of my drain piping. It was reassuring to see that this was a â one offâ problem and that my drains are in good shape. Will definitely recommend Zoom Drain to my neighborhoods."

"Three men, one of them a trainee, showed up right on time. Nice truck. They were very careful not to bring dirt into the house. They wore shoe covers. They covered the fireplace with plastic, so no soot would be drawn into the house. They were very efficient in their equipment setup; they obviously knew what they were doing. Their goal was to demonstrate to me that my air ducts were leaking and that I needed to purchase their aero-seal service. Frankly, I thought the seal testing was somewhat hocus-pocus science. They did make a valuable suggestion about closing off my attic fan vent. When I asked if they could adjust the insulation bats in one part of my attic and if they could install insulation under the floor of one of my rooms, they said they could not or would not do that. They recommended some other company, who did show up a week later. He looked over the job, left, and never called me back. The job estimates from Anton's (3 of them) included not only the Aero-seal service, but also replacing my working air conditioning unit, inside and out."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Saint Charles, MO

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
