DJ was very responsive in coming out to look at the job and providing a quote, and was very honest about the pricing and potential longer lead time due to COVID issues. Due to shortage in lumber supply (and increased prices), the price for vinyl instead of wood was not much more expensive, so we went with the vinyl install. The pricing was very fair and we couldn't be happier with the results. DJ stayed in communication with me leading up to the install and came back again to make sure we were on the same page with the layout. DJ and his crew were punctual with the install, very efficient and kept me informed all the way through the process. He worked with us to make sure we were happy with aesthetics and in dealing with unforeseen landscape issues. It was very obvious they knew what they were doing. "I wanted to take this opportunity to leave a review for the landscaping work Good Samaritan Landscaping performed at my home. I had full landscaping installed, from irrigation, topsoil and ground leveling, concrete, fencing, rock, sod, and some extras. The results of their work have made my forever home beautiful, beyond my expectations. I receive comments from neighbors and guests often about the plan, the materials chosen, and how sharp the yard looks. I came upon Good Samaritan Landscaping through Angie’s List. I contacted them through the site and received a phone call the next morning. Leslie and Fred were quick to arrive at my home, talk about my needs and wants, and were compassionate to some constraints I was under. I had an idea of what I wanted and spoke with both Leslie and Fred about my needs and wants. They were quickly able to take my ideas and formulate a plan. I was placed into their schedule as quickly as they were able accommodate me, with other jobs they currently were involved in. Fred’s crew arrived a couple of weeks later with his equipment and began the large task of creating a yard and landscape from plain dirt. His crew worked carefully around my home, expertly avoiding the marked utilities, and the irrigation system was completed in days. Topsoil was brought in to level and properly grade the yard, which was done to Fred’s expert eye and satisfaction. Concrete curbing was then installed beautifully. Next was rock in the perimeter of the property and around the house. Fred and Leslie both looked hard for the type and color rock I had wanted. I was pleasantly surprised with stone that exceeded my expectations for color and beauty. The extra effort they took on this part of the job really sets my house apart from all others, I could not be more pleased. When sod arrived and went down, Fred was personally involved to make sure it was laid with expertise and care. The results of his work are outstanding. Fred and Leslie both are honest, genuine, and put their extra touch into their work. It is without hesitation that I give my highest complements and recommendation to Fred and Leslie at Good Samaritan Landscaping. What amazing people to work with! "They were fast to get the job and start it. Also were nice and easy to work during work. The removal of the root and old concrete was just fine. 11/17 They poured late in the day and when completed the light levels were low and the imperfections were not visible. They covered the concrete with concrete blankets that night. They showed a couple of days later. Stated the concrete was set and solid, even standing on it. Then stated they would be picking up the blankets before Thanksgiving. They didn't show up for another week. Unit 1923 (unit the work was completed for) has years of concrete experience. I had him complete a write up on what he thinks of the work. 11/28 he removed the blanket and wrote the following. "Concrete review and issues A few things need to be cleaned up in order to fully complete the job: 1- There is cement and dirt on the old concrete slabs that need to be cleaned off to bring it to the original condition. 2- The gravel and concrete pieces need to be cleaned out of the grass 3- The remaining tree roots, concrete blankets, and 2x4’s need to be removed 4- The concrete needs to be sealed In addition to the state of the job site, the quality of work does not match the expectations for the agreed-upon quote. The appearance of the new slab looks rushed and sloppy, and it also has structural issues which will lead to it needing to be replaced prematurely. 1- There is exposed aggregate in multiples places along the edges, which will allow water to penetrate and cause premature spalling and cracking. 2- The concrete has a very rough and uneven finish—presumably because the broom finish was applied while the concrete was too wet and because the concrete blankets were also placed while it was too wet. This will contribute to premature spalling and cracking. 3- The concrete is not flat. There is a large hump on one side of the slab, which should have been leveled out with a screed board before finishing the surface. 4- There was no expansion used along the edges of the pour, which will inhibit the concrete from expanding and contracting properly. This will also contribute to premature spalling and cracking. This work should be removed and replaced in order to complete the job as originally agreed upon. Everything except the cost of the root removal should be refunded so that an experienced concrete crew can fix these issues." I can comment on the hump. The were trying to contour the slab uneven existing slab On 11/29 they showed up and spoke with them briefly for a few minutes about the issues. One of them promised to seal the concrete as there were issues. Didn't get into refund discussions."
