"We have a 1/2 acre lot.  Although the large grass backyard was very attractive it was not very usable as it sloped away.  So we had a limited use yard, a small patio that could only comfortably handle about 4 people.  Additionally we were paying for watering and lawn service with no real return.  We decided that it would be a better use of the area if we extended the patio.  We also thought that it wold be too much concrete so we decided to put a Bocce court in the lower level.  That gives us much more use of the area. <br /> Our back yard is beautiful and everyone that has been there to visit and/or play Bocce has agreed.  The people that did the work were professional, friendly and respectful.  We feel like we have new friends. <br /> During the construction, we would be apprised of issues and given a choice of solutions.  Most of the time these were no-cost changes.  Their costs were almost always what they estimated.  Most of the cost increases came from my wife and I saying things like "while you at it..." or "can you also build...." <br /> When they did not feel completely comfortable with an issue (E.g., they changed a 220 volt line into 2 separate fused 110 volt lines with switches and outlets), they told us so and asked our permission to bring in a subcontractor (and electrician) to assure that everything was done correctly and to code.  They told us this during the design process. <br /> When things were not done to our expectations, they redid them.  A month after the job was done we saw grass growing through an area where the grass was removed, weed barrier installed and covered with mulch.  When we called, they came out to see and agreed that it should not have happened and are now in the process of redoing that area.  Great follow up! <br />"

"Although the walkways turned out very well, we were disappointed because the job was not initially finished as promised. However, once we contacted Miller's about what was left undone, they responded promptly and wrapped up the job. <br /> <br /> I'll start with the positives: <br /> <br /> 1) The walkways were done very well and look nice. <br /> 2) The crew who poured the cement worked hard and was quiet and efficient. <br /> <br /> And now what didn't go so well: <br /> <br /> 1) We got the estimate in early April. We had to call a few times to schedule the work. Our first message or two was not returned. <br /> 2) The crew didn't show up at all on the day we were told work would begin. Instead of Miller's contacting us regarding the delay, we had to call and were told the crew had to finish another job. Our project was rescheduled to the next week. <br /> 3) When the crew showed up the following week, the first two guys had no idea what they were there for. They asked me if they should start shoveling the rock perimeter in the <em>front</em> yard. I had to explain our project involved only the back yard and showed them a diagram and instructions my husband fortunately left, just in case. The crew leader appeared to know more but it wasn't clear how much instruction had been given about what our project entailed. <br /> 4) The workers asked me where to put the ornamental rock they moved to pour the sidewalk. I asked them if they planned to put the rock back once the forms were removed and they said yes. I then suggested putting the pile near the walkway so it'd be easier to put back when they were done. They left without putting the rock back. My husband had to shovel the rock instead. <br /> 5) They also left without reinforcing the fence posts. We had to contact Miller's and ask that the work be completed. <br /> <br /> Okay, now for the rest of the story (another positive!): <br /> <br /> The owner followed-up with us immediately after receiving our complaint by e-mail. He apologized profusely and graciously offered to have the workers return and complete the job at no additional cost. The two workers who showed up to reinforce our fence posts were punctual, knew exactly what needed to be done and had the job finished in 20 minutes. <br /> <br /> If I was asked to provide advice to the merchant, I'd say their communication with staff and customers before, during and after projects needs work. There should be a confirmation call to the customer to make sure details are set and expectations outlined before the work begins. If a crew can't show up on the day a project is to begin, contact the customer to say so and offer an alternative. Finally, I'd suggest a follow-up e-mail survey, inquiring about the quality of work, whether the job was finished to the customer's satisfaction, allow for comments, etc. There are several internet survey sites that can easily be set up to perform such an inquiry."

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in Samoa, CA

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
