I am a general Handyman with a current EPA Universal Certification, which means that I am licensed to handle any and all refrigerants that are currently available. I am also a Journeyman Mason, handling all aspects of masonry. I am also very familiar with installing/running new wires for cable tv, as well as internet jacks, excluding fiber optic cable. Electricity and plumbing are another set of skills that I have, but I am not licensed in Texas to do anything requiring a permit in those fields. English and Spanish are my languages, with a preference for English.

"I was very impressed with the service I received from South Belt. This is the first time I have bought an air conditioning system so I got several estimates. South Belt did have the best price, but what really sold me was the professionalism and knowledge of my rep Matt. Matt was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions. It is so nice to buy from someone that is not trying to over sell me. Also, I wanted to note that the job foreman was very polite and helpful. Good job South Belt!"

"Could not wish for a better removal and replacement of both 13-year old two and four ton residential York heating and A/C systems. The company recommended by Angie's List wanted to install a two and a four ton, both 14 seer, Lennox systems at what I thought was an unreasonably high price even after their discount. I kept looking. Three companies later, I decided to go with Air Trends. I was quoted a very significant lower price for a two and four ton, 16 seer, Trane systems as compared to Angie's recommendation as well as a much lower price than the other companies providing bids. The installation went very well. The old equipment, the shipping cartons that contained the Trane system and all trash generated were hauled off. The areas where the systems were placed were swept and vacuumed clean. I have a one story home. Unusual in Texas, both units were not placed in the attic; instead, they are in two dedicated closets on the main floor. During the removal of the old and installation of the new systems, which occurred on a Tuesday, some unavoidable damage was dome to the ceilings in both closets. The following Sunday, a handyman showed up to make repairs. He patched, floated, textured and painted both ceilings. It was perfect; it looked better than the original construction. If I could give stars instead of all As (Excellent), this company would get 5 out of 5! I've made Air Trends my go to company for all my A/C and heating needs."

"Very well.  I have an old unit that is probably close to going out completely.  I called Chris on a Thursday, after 7:00 PM and coming home to an A/C unit that was blowing hot air.  I found Cucco's through another provider search company but I am glad I found him.  Other providers I have used in the past when I had a home warranty were not nearly as attentive, responsive, willing to answer to answer my questions, or as courteous - in fact, some of them were just down right rude! That was not the case with Chris. He went out of his way to explain his process and assure me that he was doing everything possible to ensure my A/C unit was being repaired to the best of his ability.  He even explained how my unit is not up to code, what it will take to get it up to code, and how to avoid costly repairs in the future. I will definitely call Chris again when the time comes to replace my unit and bring it up to code!

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Santa Fe, TX

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
