"If you need a knowledgeable, reliable electrician and want to know the job is done right - this is who you call! 1) They gave me multiple FREE inspections and estimates on homes for which I had a purchase agreement. Each was customized to the circumstances. I never got the sense that I received a "standard" quote and the inspections were always thorough and explained in depth. 2) They know their business. They know Codes and they know which codes are safety issues. 3) They show up on time, every time. 4) They keep you informed 5) They are flexible. When my large project required multiple changes at the 9th hour, they walked through everything with me and took time to understand the scope of work. 6) They made relevant recommendations and suggestions. They thought about things I had not considered, such as the simple need for an outlet in a bathroom that I had not noticed was missing or how one might naturally move through a house and where a switch for a fan vs. light may be helpful. 7) They alerted me to potential problems I might face with their work; e.g. plaster walls sometimes crumble when disturbed for electrical work. 8) They asked my preferences; minimal drywall damage vs. moving fixtures to ensure they align. 9) They accurately predicted the time to complete the work and finished on time. 10) They were careful to secure my home when they left each day 11) They cleaned up when the work was complete. I found no indication that there was any debris left in the attic or basement. All in all, if you want a job done right - pay the pros. Joe Schmo are professionals."

Customers say: True professional

"Mr Wade Sharp was quick to respond with information and a fair quote. He arrived ahead of the prescribed time and finished ahead of schedule. I appreciate his ability to communicate clearly the details of the project ( I had a lot of questions). The charger is working great and I would definitely hire Sharp Electric again for future projects."

"Excellent, Joe is very knowledgeable and professional. He is very responsive via text message which is great for me! He was on time, coached me on new chemicals and how to best utilize them to maintain the life of the hot tub. I would highly recommend him although he seems to be very busy with a long list of current clients. He is 2+ weeks out so I would advise reaching out to him in advance and not waiting until the last minute or you may be out of luck."

"Mike, the owner, knew I had serious reservations about starting the project once I committed myself to having the work done. My biggest concerns were based on the fact that I had nothing to compare his estimate to, so I had no earthly idea as to what I was getting myself into or if his price was "fair and reasonable". Although I did have other contractors look at the concerns I had, none of them came up with anything remotely close to what each other proposed or suggested to remedy my situation. That being said, "I" did know that I was tired of looking at a wet cellar every time it rained. I also knew that the water coming from the downspouts needed to be diverted away from the foundation. Mike and his crew provided me with the remedy I was seeking, and so far so good. They did have to come back out and make some improvements on their original installation in the cellar as far as their water diversion, but it seemed to solve the problem. Mike is a very personable guy as were the employees he had working on my project. They answered any questions I had and I enjoyed the worthless banter I had with his son Aaron. We even sat down a played guitars together for a few minutes before they departed for the last time.....or was it, Aaron? I stated I would not hire them again because I'm pretty sure I won't have too. The waterproofing aspect of the work they performed comes with a 25-year transferable warranty, at least I think I read that somewhere? I stated N/A on the price because as I stated earlier, I honestly have nothing to compare it to as far as other estimates or contractors. However, knowing the next homeowner will not have to deal with the same issues I had to deal with after only 15 months lets me know I did right by them! Pay it forward! p.s. I did suggest to Mike that he ensures to make any prospective customer aware of any outliers they may be responsible for after their work is completed. There were some electrical issues that weren't discussed or addressed and I would have been better prepared to absorb the additional costs to hire an electrician had I known before the project was started."

"It went very well. The paint job looks great. I let them choose the color. There were no paint drips on the sidewalks or the house, they cleaned up when they were finished. We had quotes for much higher. They are very nice and easy to work with."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Scotland, IN

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
