"We hired Prolifik for our basement bathroom remodel, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Our project manager Jon was professional, respectful, and incredibly skilled. He kept us informed every step of the way and was always available to answer our questions. We are looking forward to final results after our glass shower doors arrive. This process had exceeded our expectations, and the quality of the work is top tier! We highly recommend Prolifik and plan to use them for future projects!"

"I could not be happier with the final product! The first pic is the old bathroom from the 60s when the house was built. The rest are the final rebuild and it looks great. I would highly recommend VMK Remodeling for any project that you might have. I am also going to get a bid on redoing the deck on the back of the house as Vince's company does decks as well! Thanks to his great crew as well, great people to work with."

"Eaton Brothers installed Hardie Siding on my house. I found them to be very reliable, knowledgeable and skilled craftsmen during this process. They did a high quality job at a reasonable rate. I saved their contact info and plan to use them again!"

"he arrived a few minutes early and went right to work on my basement door. It now works beautifully. He even took out a bunch of junk to the dumpster that I wasn't able to remove because I hadn't been able to open the door. He glued down the ripped vinyl flooring (ripped from a wheelchair because we had floating flooring and it isn't wheelchair friendly) reattached vinyl trim under the cabinets, one security light was replaced and he purchased two new bulbs for another one, fixed a small ramp leading to the back door so the wheelchair rolls smoothly thru the doorway, moved the entry door in and pretty much reconstructed the entire doorway to install the new storm door, installed door handles, and took out a pile of flattened boxes and other trash from my deck to the dumpster. he repaired 3 gates to my backyard. I'm almost sure he did more but I'm forgetting the little stuff. Ron is a very friendly guy and listens to what you want and helps to come up with a solution. I am calling him back to do a bunch more work for me. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family and everyone else, too!"

"Our project was completed to a standard that exceeded our expectations. When John first came out to see our house he listened carefully to our needs and vision for our home. He also made suggestions and gave us information we needed about the realities of such a large project. Soon he had prepared drawings for us that provided a more concrete presentation of his understanding of our wishes and a common focus for more idea development. We were initially very impressed that John seemed to understand our taste and lifestyle and he developed a plan that was not only functional and beautiful but highly personal. The major part of our project was a complete kitchen renovation, including the removal of a wall to open the kitchen into the dining room, the removal of a peninsula, and expansion of a window. Additionally, we replaced all of the ceilings and floors on the main level of the house. John arranged for an interior designer to meet with us and later take us shopping to select cabinets, tile, lighting, flooring, and countertop. We were told that the project would take 6-8 weeks but in fact all of the work described above was completed in exactly 30 days! At that point we had to wait a week for the quartz countertop to be installed. Under a separate contract, Striking Renovations then installed new doors on the main level and completely renovated our basement. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of all the workers in our home. All were very knowledgeable, conscientious and hard-working. Equally important to us, however, was that we were very comfortable having these people in,our home. Every day there were two to four men working on our job. Friends had told us to expect the workmen to "disappear" for a week or more while they managed multiple jobs. That was not our experience. Additionally, these men were friendly, cheerful, polite and respectful of us and our property. We completely trusted them, whether we were home or not. One aspect we would like to see this energetic young company develop would be the area of communication. We did feel that sometimes we waited too long for returned phone calls and that we were not always on the same page with verbal requests or questions. We eventually started clarifying important information by email-that seemed to eliminate further problems. But overall, we are VERY SATISFIED with the work, the people and the results we experienced with STRIKING RENOVATIONS. We recommend them to friends and neighbors and will be calling them again for future projects. <br />"

"Mosby did a residential project about a year ago for us. Everything went well and Mosby was professional and courteous. Now there is a complication, and I am getting stonewalled with zero discussion of responsibility. After this, I would not use them again. They are not the cheapest; I expected better"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Scott-afb, IL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
