"I took several contractors to homes I wanted to purchase and remodel. But the only one that came prepared was Vicente from Lean Developers Corp. I am a very interesting client because of my background in interior design. After we purchased the home his team worked a miracle on my home that was built in 1936. His team was nice, polite, and diligent workers."

"I couldn't be more pleased with Alberto's work! I originally contracted with him for labor only, assuming I would buy the materials, but I wasn't sure what was needed. So Alberto accompanied me to purchase the necessary materials, answering any questions I had. He completed the entire project in less than a week, whereas the only other contractor who bothered to show up and give me a quote estimated four weeks, at higher cost."

"Our experience with Chris and Helene was great. Their crew did outstanding work, particularly the new tile around the tub/shower. They showed up when they were supposed to and knew what they were doing. Helene always let me know who was coming at what time and what would be done. Great communication from start to finish. We love our new bathroom and are getting ready for H4U to remodel our second bathroom."

"They put up wood panels onto a wall, had to work around and extend a dual light switch. They had to get a bit creative so the panels ended at same spot on both sides of the wall. Project turned out great. Genuinely nice people to work with."

"Buyer BE Cautious; - Bathroom remodel took 4 weeks -not 1 week as agreed upon - After 2 of the contractors we had to do the clean-up (2-3 hours to clean up each time) -Having issues with cabinet drawer not closing properly and no one is returning our calls On a positive note: the shower / plumbing contractor is AMAZING as were the drywall patch / paint contractors. Countertops / sinks look very nice. Up front, you are promised a lot; - 1 week project - contractors will lay down plastic on carpets and doorways - always do the clean-up and be informed every step of the way... which is NOT what happened. On 3 different times they just never showed up on the day / time they specified - which created issues since have pets. On one occasion the contractor left with our front door wide open and all the sawdust and wood debris on front walkway. - Travel voucher? Have not seen. I will state that we are pleased with end result except the cabinet as well as some of the fixtures - i.e. toilet paper holder and towel rack- which loosened up and fell off within the 1st week after payment. I decided to just repair myself since no one is returning our calls. Will not attempt to use on kitchen countertops as we cannot go weeks without a kitchen and having to board up our pets, nor do I want to have to clean-up on this job every day after work. Joe and David mean well, however follow-up and follow-thru are quite lacking. They could do well by using a checklist and either personally following up with supervisor daily to see if all work is done and clean-ups are performed. They also should follow-up on committed dates and if over-booked (as it appears they were) adjust price by -$100 / per each day they are running behind... Rob is the best part of this company, as is the plumber and 1st Painter. They were top notch!"

"It was great working with Sean on our remodel. He assisted us in removing a wall between our kitchen & living room and reinforced the space with a beam. He built out a laundry closet complete with gas/electrical hook ups, etc. He is calm, collected and knowledgable and we appreciate his work everyday."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Scottsdale, AZ

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
