"Anthony and his team at Reliable Hardwood Flooring refinished all the wood floors in our new home before we moved in. Three coats of Nordic sealer (to help lighten the wood) and two coats of a comm. matt polyurethane. They are absolutely stunning, and we have had several compliments from friends! Anthony and his team worked with a sense of urgency, showed total professionalism and stand by their work. They possess incredible work ethic and do everything in their power to make sure that the customer is totally satisfied. They have nothing but complete respect for their customers. With our floors, there were several damaged areas that they went above and beyond to fix, and the floors look like the damage was never there! We highly recommend Reliable Hardwood Flooring! They are the best! Great pricing, too!"

"Had B&D refinish ~650 SqFt of hardwood on the first floor. Also had them rip out carpeting and pad in the 2nd floor hallway and install new hardwood and finish. When we returned home after a timely 3-day vacation, we were speechless. The quality of the work and attention to detail was fantastic. They cleaned everything, and took great care to contain dust. We had them back a month later and removed carpeting in our living room and install new hardwood. We are planning on having them back sometime in 2020 to install hardwood in the 4 upstairs bedrooms. Binh and his son Don are the best."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Sebago, ME

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
