"Working with Dave and his crew was an excellent experience. They provided top notch service and explanation of the process involved. Our garage floor had over 40 years of road salt and chemical from Illinois winters. The floor had a couple of large cracks and a significant area of pitting and wear from the limestone in the concrete being eaten away by the salt. The floor now looks like a masterpiece. We've already experienced a snow an the floor cleaned up wonderfully. I'd highly recommend Concrete Ink!!"

"Determined what the problem was and fixed it.  Later leaked again but they located problem and fixed it without further cost. Did a good job and have gone through heavy rains without any leaks.   Contractor did what they said what they said they would do without any problems. <br />"

"I dealt with Tammy, who is the owner of the company.  After some initial difficulties in connecting and getting a time setup to complete an estimate, she was excellent.  She was very helpful in explaining the different options for our basement and brought with her 2 x 2 ft examples of the actual epoxy finishes.  We initially thought we were going to do a concrete stain finish, but after seeing the epoxy's marble-like appearance, we decided to go with it instead.  Their prices were also much cheaper than the 4 other companies we talked to (less than half the price).  We are very pleased with the floor and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.  Highly recommended! <br />"

"G & G was contracted to remove an existing 700 sq.ft. patio (which had been incorrectly poured by Schaefer Concrete 6 months prior) and replace the patio.  Their price was very reasonable and they had the work done a few weeks after our initial meeting.  George (the owner) listened to my plans and fulfilled them exactly.  Nearly a year later, the patio looks amazing"

"<p>They did five main things I always look for.</p> <p>Work was very high quality , Justin might be the best young man I have ever seen run a Bobcat</p> <p>Work came in UNDER the estimate </p> <p>Work was done in a timely fashion   even in bad weather</p> <p>The workers were courteous, clean and very safety conscious about everything .</p> <p>The owner Tim came and made sure I was satisfied at the end of the work, walked the area with me,  shaked my hand and gave me his cell and told me he would be back by month end for the patio. He even volunteered to re roll the drive after it settles since he is coming back for the patio area,</p> <p><br></p>"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Shelbyville, IL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
