"Pavestone Rockwall pecan bricks were purchased by our contractor. Home Depot loaded the pallet on his truck and he brought it to our yard. While unloading we noticed a third of the pallet was pecan. The rest appeared as cinderblock. When returned to Home Depot they were very cooperative in refunding. Home Depot told us this is a common problem with this product from Pavestone. When Pavestone is contacted the say they will correct the problem, but nothing is ever done. My contractor has contracted Pavestone here in Denver and was told a representative would come to check out our issue. Never seen anyone from Pavestone. They are totally unresponsive to paying customers requests. Arrogant and rude to disregard customers. Find other product if you can! We now have a partially built retaining wall and my contractor is searching Denver to find a pallet tgat even has a few pecan colored bricks! Pathetic customer service"

"I used this company for a number of years and the overall service is no longer the same. I had them over to clean my gutters and I witnessed ladders slamming against the side of my house and they tore one of the edges from the corner of my roof with their step ladder. I will not use them going forward."

"Nolands Landscaping did a wondaful job regrading our yard. He worked with us to fit our budget and did a phenomenal job. Our yard used to flood with heavy rain and the water would stand and it would be soggy for weeks then tons of mosquitoes. He did a awesome job of directing the water so it goes to the drain in the back. No standing water anymore it drains and the yard is useable next day! Great resolution to our problem. Thank you."

"We are return customers, and once again Poul's service was excellent. Kelly provided personalized attention to our project, and we greatly appreciate her expertise. The crew did a wonderful job planting our trees, and communication about installation dates was prompt. They genuinely care about their customers, and have a beautiful nursery; highly recommend."

"I am a General Contractor is South Florida who bought my wife's family house in the Chicago area. I researched for a paving company to replace our 30+ year old driveway and picked Finnegan Paving to complete the work. I would not hesitate to recommend them. They did an excellent job in replacing the driveway and were very professional. Being a General Contractor, it was more than just the excellent installation they performed, but it is the service after the job is completed. For some unknow reason, a small area of the driveway settled and started ponding. Finnegan Paving came out and removed that portion of the driveway and repaired the ponding, no questions asked. There are many companies out there that can do a good job, but not many that go the extra mile to make sure the customer is happy. I would highly recommend you contact Finnegan Paving for any of your paving needs."

"Schell Sealcoating did a fabulous job on my driveway. I have hired them several times and have been extremely happy with their work. Jeff Schell, owner, and his employees are reliable, polite, punctual, pleasant, trustworthy and a pleasure to work with. Schell provided the lowest pricing and the highest quality work. I had used other seal coating companies in the past, but as soon as I started using Schell, I have stayed with them. Use Schell! You will be happy you did."

"Missed a lot of small pea holes in the middle of driveway. Said that is usual, but yet the sides had sealcoating in them and my small cracks. They came out to patch it and well looks awful. My son even told them the spots and they missed almost all of them. Usually they charge $90, but our subdivision had over 30 of us that went in and they charged $75. Over 30 of us are highly disappointed with the quality and false advertising on there flyer."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Skokie, IL

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
