"The job went well, very brief and surprisingly inexpensive. (I understand everyone has to live, so I expected to pay for a livelihood, but I was delighted to have my wallet only lightly crimped.) Bertie Walsh arrived around the agreed time.  I gave him the two grab bars the VA decided I needed in my bathing area, an old retired vet in a wheelchair, like me. I live alone, in a condo, so I needed a handyman to install them. <br /> I'm glad I had a professional person install them because, even if I were fit, I surely would have botched the job. This place was cut up into condos in 1987. It used to be just a red brick factory-- originally constructed around the turn of the 20th century to work with Brockton by making those metal lacing eyelets for boots. They used metal--not plywood--when they cut the factory into apartments like mine (Bertie Walsh later explained to me). If I were doing the job myself I would have been expecting wooden studs behind the tile--which would have been full of exploratory holes when I got done. <br /> So, I pointed to the bathroom, assured myself that Bertie Walsh had all he needed, and went to finish watching the program I had on, wondering what I had to offer Mr. Walsh when he broke for lunch soon. How pleased I was when that time arrived and he said the job was done and that I only owed him $50! <br /> Bertie Walsh explained to me that the grab bars were firm, but that he had to install them in the metal.
