When something is wrong at your own home, its no small thing. Others might think the project is small or unimportant, but the little things make a big difference when it isn’t just a house, but it’s your home. At Hardworking Handyman, we work hard to make your home be what you want it to be. We believe that no project is too minor because you, your family, and your home are worth it.

"Shawn was on time, kept me informed of work done. His estimate was reasonable and any changes were talked about before the work was done. Shawn does excellent work in a timely manner, very thorough. He is honest and a kind person. I would highly recommend!"

"Mike Hart is a scam artist. Had a deck and bedroom that needed torn down and rebuilt. Mike tore the deck and bedroom down in July 2024. Then says he got a hernia and delayed doing anymore work that summer and fall. I did pay him for the demolition of the bedroom and deck. Said he had to have hernia surgery in fall of 2024 and would have to complete the job in spring of 2025. He convinced me to give him a check for $5800 to buy lumber and other materials needed for completion of the deck and bedroom in the fall of 2024 because prices would be lower then than in the spring. Contacted Mike in April of 2025 to see when he would be able to complete the project but told me he had to ?retire? because his hernia wasn?t completely healed. When it came time for my new contractor to complete the project, he contacted Mike to make arrangements to met Mike at Mike?s storage facility to pick up the lumber but Mike made multiple excuses as to why he wasn?t available to met him. He is not retired. "

I am an owner operated carpentry and maintenance service with 35 years of knowledge and experience. I work inside and outside. Working on any building from top to bottom. I have built new homes and remodeled all rooms in old homes. I build, install, patch, paint and fix most anything.

"Darrin was incredibly responsive. We needed a very large refrigerator moved into our kitchen from a ramp adjacent to our house as soon as possible (our current fridge had failed with no recourse for repair, and we had hundreds of $$ of food standing by in a large ice chest). He was able to come within 90 mins of our "cold" calling him, & was very knowledgeable, fast and expert at securing the replacement to an appliance cart we provided & navigating up a double-back ramp behind out house, into side entrance and past a very narrow space into our kitchen. This required removing side entrance door from its hinges, and removing fridge doors (and then replacing once positioned in the kitchen), which he did expertly and quickly. Darrin was very friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and fast. We learned he also does carpentry work, and given his excellent work will reach out to him for a project we will have in the spring once the weather warms up. Would highly (highly) recommend. "

"I found him through Angis and called twice to verify that he had good ratings. I should have be leery from the start when he could not look me in the eye and gave me an undated piece of notebook paper when I gave him 500$ to start the job. About a week later they framed in the porch and steps. Then he texted me Easter morning that he would pour the cement that week but needed the 500$ to pay for the cement. And he wanted me to leave a check in my mailbox. (I will send screen shots of texts. (I only spoke with him once on the phone when I asked him to come here so I could meet him and give him the deposit. The rest were all texts except the 3-4 times we spoke at the house. I reminded him of our agreement - 1/3 of payment to start, 1/3 of payment at halfway point and the rest at completion. Then i heard from him again the Tuesday after Easter saying they would pour the cement Wednesday or Thursday but needed the $ for the cement. I again said no money until more work was done as per agreement. Then he texted at 7:21 am at work again saying he needed money to pour cement. I immediately called him & it went straight to voicemail and I left him a message saying no more money until he did more work . (At this point, they had only framed in the area with 2x4 lumber and some mounting screws. I also told him to call me back because I was at work and I didn’t have time to go and forth back-and-forth via text all day. Then he proceeded to text me more about how much the cement cost and how he needed the money to buy the cement and that he had spent the deposit money of $500 on bills. The initial 500$ payment on notebook paper said it was for supplies. I indicated that it was not my concern how much the cement costs nor was it my concern what he did with the deposit or anything else & that we had an agreement in writing. I also said it didn’t make a sense. How if I gave him a check in the morning how he was gonna turn that into buying cement since it would take two days for the check to clear. He also had changed his mind from mixing the cement themselves with metal so it held up longer to having it delivered. He also was allegedly making the handrails at their shop during this period as well. He said they would be solid and better and cheaper than that “ Chinese crap” that would have cost me 2k. He also give me a long list of accomplishments & credentials etc and how they were an all American business and I was gonna get my moneys worth.. So they finally did pour the cement and I then gave him 500$ more. He said it had to set a few days then they would be back to put up the railings. During this period they had left a wheelbarrow with a flat tire and 1/2 full of cement that we could t even move. We also threw out the carpet that had been sitting in front yard since the first day of work and now covered with some cement . We disposed of that ourselves. I was tired of waiting and did not know why they left it. So almost a week after they poured the cement, they were back putting up tailing when I arrived home from work. The railings that were up looked older and rusty and certainly not recently handmade?! Then they welded them together and spray-painted them getting spray paint on the cement on our front door, etc . I don’t know why they wouldn’t have been painted at the shop before they were put up. I was gonna address some of these concerns with them cause I saw they were starting to clean up went up to use the restroom and I was gonna take my son to work and I came down and they were gone. And part of the base of railing base was absent. Mind you they have been out here several times to take all the measurements for this stuff in our professionals all allegedly. And then texted saying they would be out to finish railings. They needed another piece. So then they came out, finished it and disappeared again. Then they returned for the final payment and I expressed many of these concerns to him. He said the that’s the railings naturally just turn rusty color. And didn’t have much to say about the other concerns that I wrote here and that I told to him. So who is like so you don’t wanna pay for all of this and I was like no not the full price. So yes what I would give them and I said how about 400 and he seemed to jump at that. Then I asked him for an invoice please what you gave me which wasn’t very detailed or anything but just verified I gave him $400. I didn’t even thank him. I just said Sia as he and his partner was sitting in their truck out front. Well, the main reason is higher than was because they were on Angis and because I was told by two different people from Angis that they got great reviews. I find it hard to believe based on my entire experience how we got more than two stars on any other job. I’m not satisfied with how the job was completed how it looks now and I’m not very optimistic about how long the railings are gonna last or what they’re gonna look like in a few months or next summer. I’m not sure what could be done in regards to railings unless he came back and put up new good railings but then I’d have to take it out of cement and everything else… I also feel that I overpaid for the project although I know the cement was a high part of the cost cost of the project. I also thought it was strong arm tactics, which I told him and unprofessional how he was blowing up my phone asking for a $500 before we could or would pour the cement. I think it would be fair to ask for $400 back and some kind of assurance that these railings were gonna last based on what I saw ( I sent you pictures- I did not get a picture of the railings before they painted them). I also would like to prevent any other customers from going through an ordeal like this. I don’t know how legitimate or good this business really is. It did get done, but like I said, I’m not too pleased, but the outcome or their entire process. I’ve dealt with many contractors and never had one like this before."

"When I first had this company do small projects for me, I was impressed with the work, however, as the projects kept being done, he was always in such a hurry. He had so many customers to handle, he did not have time to really do a good job. He replaced a vanity in a bathroom, and cracked the drain pipe (2 inch crack). It was left. It began to leak and ruined my ceiling in my living room. So now all the plumbing and ceiling need replaced at my cost. He installed bead board on another bathroom along with trim. It was the worst job I have ever seen. I sat down and cried after he left. Again at my out-of-pocket costs, I now have a beautiful bathroom installed properly. He needs to be up front with customers that his scope of work does not include plumbing, electrical or fine carpentry. Horrible job..."

Atwood Home Builders was started in 1961 by Marvin “Bunker” Stein and has been proudly serving the residents of Pittsburgh for over fifty years. Since 1961, we have been replacing roofs, windows, siding and gutters, as well as installing concrete patios and driveways for the valued members of our community including teachers, nurses, doctors, city workers, churches and more. We enjoy working, living and raising our families in Pittsburgh and we care about our customers. At Atwood Home Builders, we have spent the last fifty years establishing a solid reputation as a company you can trust. Today, we are proud to be able to say that most of our new business is referred to us by past or existing customers. Family owned & operated.

"They installed a new roof, gutters, and downspouts for my house in late summer 2024. The quality was poor -- they had to return to fix their gutters as they were leaking. Now, the flashing is coming off and they are refusing to repair their sloppy work. The work did not even last one year, which is unacceptable. I'm concerned that as time goes by it will get even worse. They do not respond and do not seem to care. I cannot recommend this company."

Pittsburgh Remodeling Company is built on the principles of customer service and craftsmanship. Through partnership with homeowners, the team at PRC can help achieve any vision for your home remodeling project. While every home and every project is different, when Pittsburgh Remodeling Company is involved there are certain constants: The work looks amazing and the customers are satisfied. So if you’re looking for more than a contractor, for a company that will care about your project and final product as much as you do, let’s start a conversation .

"I wasn't planning on writing a review about our experience with PRC, but after finding more examples of poor workmanship on a project that was supposed be completed 10 months ago, I've changed my mind. This post is not motivated by malice, but we are very disappointed. PRC came highly recommend, and we knew we'd be paying a premium for a good company. We expected a lot more on a job that nearly totaled 40K. Our entire project was not terrible, and there were areas where PRC excelled. First the Good: PRC was organized and prompt every day that they came to work. They respected our home, and did their best to make sure the rest of the house remained clean. They stuck to the contract. They were always patient with us and answered our questions. Their design assistance was great, and we love the aesthetics that were chosen for hour kitchen project. They definitely listened and tried to address our concerns (but they fell short). The Bad: This is just my theory, but I feel as though our project was considered insignificant compared to more complicated work that I know PRC does. We are going to have to replace the new floor in our kitchen/dining room that is not 12 months old because PRC failed to install it properly. We will now be forced to spend another 3-4 K on the replacement. To be fair, PRC returned most of our money we paid them for the floor. I appreciate this greatly, but it is going to cost us money we didn't plan on spending on getting it right. The floor co. we are using now took one look at the floor and explained all the areas that were done incorrectly. They are going to use our floor as an example of poor installation to future clients. They will also photograph the new floor to present a before and after example. The plumbing under our sink came undone after maybe 2 months. This was repaired promptly, but I worry about its longevity. Switch plates and the new heat register were installed crooked. Again, this was fixed, but why not install it right the first time? The issue that is forcing me to write this review, the paint. I believe this was a 1200 item on our work order. They came multiple times in order to get it right. It still isn't. There are areas that are not covered, blotchy, and simply not painted at all. As I was cleaning a portion of the wall yesterday, I noticed that there are entire sections of wall that are not painted. It is just bare wall compound. We did not receive a refund for the paint, but I did not ask for one. My mistake. It should not take multiple visits to paint one room properly. However, this is another example of how I will be spending more time and money for something that I already paid for. There are more issues, but these are the most significant. Again, we are so disappointed. We wanted to work with PRC on future projects, but that is impossible now. We actually don't even want to get involved in any more home projects after this experience. I think PRC has the ability to deliver quality work, but for some reason they fell quite short with our home. We have currently tried to contact PRC about the additional problems we have found, and have been ignored. Proceed with caution!"
