"I have an old rental house that was in need of some carpets. I called World of Floors, along with a few other carpet businesses in town. John from World Of Floors listened to what we were asking for told us where we could get the best deal on carpet (something I double checked after the fact {he was right, by the way!}) and was able to get us taken care of just a couple of days after the carpet was ready. The rooms look great and the install crew cleaned up nicely when they were done. I definitely will be calling them again when it comes time to redo the carpets in my house or my other rental! They were great to work with and quick to respond. I highly recommend them!"

"This is the third time I've had Pro Quality Flooring do work in my house over the last 11 years. I'm very satisfied with the results. The breakdown of the job is as follows: Kitchen/Laundry/Dining area Sheet Vinyl: 384 Sq ft, $2915 Great Room carpet: 231 sq ft, $1367 Carpet for stairs: 66 sq ft, $265 Flooring materials cover a wide price range and I chose items that were above average price although certainly not the most expensive. So keep in mind the job could have been cheaper if I selected less expensive materials. I like working with this company because they have plenty of selection in their showroom, but they are still small enough that they actually employ the installers themselves rather that passing it off to some other company. Over the years I've learned to value the quality of the installation as much or more than the quality of the finished materials. There are fewer communications issues and easier problem resolution when there is only one company involved. I had a few special requests that they handled properly. The installers for Pro Quality are very good at what they do. Although I've had carpet installed several times, this was the first time I had vinyl replaced. It turns out the cost of the vinyl is less than half the cost of the job overall. They tear up the existing vinyl and the plywood it's glued to. Then the have to lay down a new layer of plywood and use a joint compound and sanding similar to a drywall seam to create a smooth surface before gluing down the new vinyl. When they took up the existing floor, it turns out there was another vinyl floor below it. There was a section of vinyl tiles that were missing in the lower floor but they were able to patch in some scrap vinyl to make a level surface. Also, the laundry room had no baseboard at all so they put in some new baseboard moulding and cut the height to match the corners of the existing moulding (non-standard height because of the dual layer floors.) The job included new shoe moulding except where they reused the existing cabinet moulding so it would still match. They found a kick panel for my dishwasher which didn't have one because it had been replaced after the kitchen cabinets were installed. The job included moving and replacing the washer, dryer, fridge and oven. It was a solid 2-day job for a 2-person crew. They were very careful with my appliances and the work space was very clean when they were done each day. The finished job looks wonderful. The carpet install also went well and looks great. I had a bad carpet install once from another company many years ago so I'm happy to work with a company that has done good work for me in the past."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Smiths Creek, MI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
