"Mike van de Bossche met with us and was very easy to work with.  We had some vague idea of what we wanted but no real plan of what would be best from a usability and resale perspective.  We knew we wanted a finished patio that was more than a rectangular pad.  We also wanted a fire pit of some sort but weren't exactly sure if that was prudent (or even possible) on our semi-wooded lot.  Beyond the patio, we needed some kind of screen between what would be our new outdoor space and our neighbor's driveway.  We are fond of our neighbors so we didn't just want to put up a privacy fence, but we also didn't want to invest this money in our property only to sit out back and enjoy the view of their driveway parking lot.  We wanted a significant amount of patio space, but have it still fit with the shape and landscape of our current lawn without losing too much usable "play space" for volleyball, bocce, etc.  Of course, we also wanted all these elements to have some visual interest (not look like every other patio in our neighborhood); be completed in a timely fashion so we could still enjoy it this summer; and most importantly...be on budget.  Oh...and if it could be easily accessible for my father in a wheelchair, that would be great too.   It almost seemed like too much to ask!
Mike patiently listened and then went to work.  He was able to give us some good ideas from that first meeting and made us comfortable with his experience and knowledge.  After getting a couple other estimates and hearing some strong endorsements for Earthwood Arts from colleagues at work, we decided to hire Mike and his team.  Within a week, he was back out to help us with final design plans, sizing, andto walk us through the process of selecting materials.  He arranged to have some of his team begin our job within a few weeks and they arrived as promised.  They showed up on time each day and were friendly and easy to talk to.  Our questions were answered and each step was explained.  They were very respectful of our property and our space always cleaning up the job site each evening.  During an extremely hot afternoon, when they were digging, by hand, a large area 12 inches deep in the dry hard clay dirt,I had prepared and served them lemonade slushies before returning to work for the afternoon.  When I returned, the cups were rinsed and neatly stacked on a tray by the back door.  I hadn't expected that!  They gave a lot of attention to every detail of the foundation and brick laying work.  Even by hand and in the heat, we felt no corners were cut as they removed enough dirt to fill a large dumpster!  They finished on time and we LOVE the end product.  The fire pit we didn't even think was possible has completely exceeded expectations and has made us a hit of the neighborhood as well as a gathering place for our daughter's college-age friends!  We would have never come to this design for the fire pit on our own.  It is SO user friendly that a little family fire time after dinner is now a pretty common occurrence.
We're now 3 months and another Indiana season (or two!) into using out new outdoor space and we couldn't be happier.  Mike has followed up with us several times to make sure everything continues to meet our expectations.  We highly recommend Mike and the Earthwood Arts team."
