"I was immensely pleased… with the whole process of installing a new water heater. They easily fit into a schedule that was best for me when I called and Howie was the plumber that arrived and was so very personable. He came with my new water heater and explained what he needed to do and installed it without any issues. He put tarps on my carpet and stairs and I think he gets credit for leaving my work area cleaner than when he arrived! He took my old heater (which was 35 years old and very heavy I’m sure) with him and the whole installation was a nonevent for me. At 86 years old I really appreciate the ease with which this could be done for me! I will readily call them for any future issues!"

"I had a French drain installed in my existing basement to deal with water seepage issues. The job took 2 1/2 days and was challenging due to having to work around footers that supported the stairs. The crew moved through each obstacle with speed and efficiency. I was also impressed by how clean they were. They even put up plastic walls to keep dust out of the rest of the basement. When they left, the floor was probably cleaner than when they arrived! With all the recent rain I can now hear the water trickling from the new drain pipe into my sump pit. Much better than on my floor..."

"They had to come in and install a sump pump. The project was very messy but the workers were very nice and friendly. They worked very hard to stay on schedule. My basement turned out perfect and now when it rains my basement stays dry. Very professional and get the job done in a timely manner."

"Very pleased with the professionalism and integrity that was demonstrated. There were no hidden surprises. All work, timelines, and financial terms were explained ahead of time. Any questions I had during the process was satisfactorily answered. Care was taken to make sure they left the place the same as when they arrived. Respected our space in accordance with COVID-19 recommendations. Highly recommend Countryside. They are my go to business for all my H-VAC and Plumbing needs.5"

"Eric and John did plumbing work at my home a month ago, and I was happy to see their familiar faces arrive to replace our broken bathroom sink. I had purchased a replacement sink that was ready for installation. The cracked sink was removed and the new sink installed. Eric quoted the job before the work was done so I had no surprise costs upon completion. Because I had previously purchased Aquarius’ annual plumbing repair plan, I was able to save on the service fee and saved an additional 15% on the job. Once again, I was impressed with Eric and John’s professionalism and attention to detail. The replacement is installed better than the original had been by my previous plumbing company."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Stillwater, MN

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
