"Installation was seamless! My new carpet is wonderful, cushy and soft. Part of the service is that they will move the furniture in each room as long as you pack loose/breakable items. The young man doing the installation was very nice and very professional. They put most of the furniture back exactly where I had it. Had two minor issues and they came out the same day to fix. One feature of Carpet One Guanantee that I didn't use is that if you don't love the new carpet, they will tear out the "new" carpet and put in a different carpet. The booklet has really good instructions for cleaning based on the specific stain-very helpful. <br />"

"Sales, quote and overall installation went well and the floor looks very nice. My only objection has to do with an installation detail that went poorly and that's the reason for the B ratings. An unforeseen condition became apparent when the carpet was removed. The photo show that a wall had been removed and the location where the wall had been removed was patched with wood that didn't quite come up to the floor grade. The vinyl flooring was placed directly over the gap and as a result, when you walk on the floor in this area, the flooring flexes and it is quite noticeable. My comments relate to how this was handled. The installers, in general, did a fine job but they never addressed the gap issue with me or as far as I know, their manager. The installers are paid to install, apparently blind to consequences, and not problem solve; that's the issue. I didn't become aware of this problem until the job was nearly complete when I walked into the room to see the progress. I'm sure something could have been done to fill the crack and / or lessen the flex. It would have been nice for them to inform me (I was around all day) or at least let me know they discussed the issue with their manager. Perhaps nothing could have been done or perhaps something could have been done. At least I could have made an informed decision."

"They were great.  I have written and told them that.  I also told them that I will write them reviews.  They just really listened to what I needed.  They were the ones who recommended the other company because Mystic Coastal just does the tile work and such, and so the 2 companies worked well together and they offered a big variety.  They just were real easy to work with because I was doing all this long distance.  The price is a combination of the work the two companies did."

"They are a small company with a good work ethic.  The owner (David Dahlman) provided me with a written quote of exactly what would be done and the installer (John) did exactly what they said they would do.  When the installer (John) got the flu two days before my installation I was called and notified immediately that there would be a delay due to the previous job being delayed.  I was called several times to verify when the work would be done.  John showed up exactly when he said he would, did a very professional job and cleaned up when done.  The owner came by half way through to make sure that I was satisfied with the work being done.  I was very pleased with the end product.  My only negative would be the fact that they will only install, and guarantee, tiles that they provide.  I found their selection limited but I was able to find something very close to what I was looking for. <br />"

"It is hard to know where to begin in describing our experience with Better Built Basements. From start to finish, I have never had a better experience with a company. There are three things that I believe set Better Built Basements apart from other businesses: the people, the quality of the work, and the value. Our project consisted of installing a family room, bedroom, and bathroom in our unfinished basement. During the five weeks it took to complete this project, I lost count of the number of people who were involved and I can only remember a few of their names. However, what I do remember is the polite, professional, and respectful manner of each and every BBB employee. The work crews arrived on time, left on time, and left the work area cleaned at the end of the day. Everyone from management to the skilled laborers made themselves available to answer my questions, explain things, and address any concerns. And this may sound like a small thing, but everyone looked me in the eye when speaking with me. I never felt rushed or dismissed or that my requests were unimportant. I felt respected and valued as a customer and as a human being. Regarding the quality of the work, I can only describe it as exceptional. BBB has specialized teams, including people who are responsible for framing, dry-walling, painting, flooring, finish work, electrical, and so on. These are skilled, competent people who take pride in their work. Only high quality products were used in our project, many of which are specifically designed for basement installations. As I am something of a perfectionist, I can almost always find something that needs improvement or correction. However, at the time of completion, there was not a single problem or issue that needed to be addressed. As far as value, BBB’s estimate was similar to others we received from other reputable contractors. We selected BBB because we felt that what they had to offer in terms of expertise, service, and experience made them the right fit for us. From our initial consultation with the designer (Robert), during which we spent hours coming up with the perfect design for our space, until the final walk through, our experience was virtually seamless. And thanks to the production manager (Jake) and the office manager (Kaitlyn), communication throughout the process was clear, timely, and uncomplicated. The project proceeded exactly on schedule and was completed within the projected time frame. This is a company that clearly knows exactly what they are doing. And although they have probably done hundreds of projects like ours, I never had the feeling that this was “just another basement” for them. From the moment we signed our contract until the day of completion, our experience with BBB was outstanding. I cannot recommend them more highly."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Stonington, CT

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
