"Several months ago, I noticed that doors in my house were no longer closing and latching. Specifically, my front door no longer locked completely. Once I got it fully locked I could no longer open my front door anymore, so I knew I had foundation issues. I called Bay Area Underpinning to come look at my foundation and do some measurements. We discovered that my front living room was sinking approximately one and a half to 2 inches. The crew, Lance Sladek, Jake Hall, and Eddie Shaw, crawled under my house and dug 30 to 40 foot holes in the ground to install piers that would lift my foundation. These gentlemen worked in very cramped dirty conditions in 90-100° weather. I was extremely happy with their work and their dedication to doing the job correctly. My after the foundation lift, my front door as well as several other doors in my home were able to close and latch again."

"<br /> The experience went very good overall. Clayton, the owner, was very professional. He came out and gave me an estimate for the drywall repairs and kitchen remodeling work. He was referred to me by another contractor and we were happy with the results. He always came out when he said he would and he finished the job on time so i could get my next tenant in the home. The work was clean and the walls and kitchen look great!"

"<p>It was excellent. I have already referred them to a neighbor who is having a huge garage done. I  looked at, I'll bet, six companies. I have a redwood expansion joint and they were the only ones who could take  that out. They have a special epoxy they used in the hole to fill the expansion joint. Then they came out and finished the permanent epoxy. Their pricing is good and their responsiveness was fantastic. The lead installer has put in about 500 of these and he had an assistant with him that was training. These people were above board and call you back. They are polite and are ladies and gentlemen. They have a good product. His truck was immaculate. Everything was neat and he had a place for everything. </p>"

"The entire process went smoothly. Jamie, of Purdy Construction, is such a knowledgeable and skilled contractor. He was so patient with me with everything from the decision and design process to the last details of the job. It is rare to find a contractor these days that is honest and has integrity but that will also offer a fair and competitive price. Purdy Construction offers all of these things as well as doing beautiful work. Overall, the experience with Purdy Construction was excellent and I would highly recommend using them for your remodeling needs."

"I must say that one thing you want when someone is working around your house is it to be kept clean. We have 3 kids and when the bathroom was a mess and torn apart it was always clean when we got home. They quality of the work is second to none. Paul will work with you about every detail on the job you are looking to do. We could not be happier with all the work that they did."

"Terrific experience. The crew from Lebco showed up on time on the days specified and finished the project on time, despite a rain delay. The owner, Brett Leber, closely oversaw the work and made sure that all members of the crew understood our design and vision for the project. Brett was a terrific resource, he often made suggestions that improved the design and construction. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Strawberry-valley, CA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
