"The estimator took about twenty minutes to decide the cost.  He used a laser measure, so it didn't take long.  He was professional.  He told me where to go on the internet to select the linoleum that I wanted.  My kitchen is a "L" shape.  I don't like that I have to pay for the extra linoleum that gets cut off for the "L"."

"Phi did a great job installing the laminate flooring on our rental property.  He is very professional and responsive.  He gave us a great deal.  He not only included the flooring, but also baseboards and hauled away the old carpet.  He also repaired holes in the drywall.  Phil is very punctual and goes right to work.  The floors look amazing!  I will use him again for any flooring project I have including my own house. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Randy and his sons showed up on the first day and got straight to work. They were all extremely courteous and informative throughout the whole process. Randy was able to remove all carpet and install the laminate in ~1200 sqft in 2 days and left the house clean and mopped after the laminate installation was complete. I am not familiar with the laminate installation process and options but Randy was able to recommend some options and it was extremely helpful. Randy was very attentive to detail which can be clearly seen in the work towards the end of the baseboards. You can tell that he has extensive experience with laminate. We love the way the laminate looks and feels. I will definitely recommend Randy to my family."

"<p>Brian was able to adjust his schedule to perform repair sooner than originally planned.  What initially appeared as a minor task soon turned into a larger than anticipated job.  Instead of taking just a few hours, the project wound up taking more than 6 hours but the quoted cost stayed the same. Throughout the project, Brian was very careful to protect /cover fixtures, and prevent dust from entering the rest of the house.  In the end, he was particular in cleaning up all remaining debris and sawdust.  Was very satisfied in his work and may indeed use him again in the near future for preventative maintenance in balance of home.</p> <p><br /></p> <p><br /></p> <br />"

"Second time I've used Ralph Opfer Floors and I highly recommend them. The selection is extensive without being overwhelming and the customer service saved me a lot of time by listening to what my job entailed and helping me narrow my options. The installation went without a hitch and I couldn't have been more pleased overall. I recommend them to my clients who are looking for a flooring contractor. Mary Nesel/Lyon Real Estate"

"California Carpet Center worked out okay. In some way, I was happy with them but in another way, I wasn't. The sales guy was really knowledgeable and really friendly. I liked him. The guys who did the tile did a great job. I really liked them. The carpet layers were a little hit-and-miss. I know, their carpet layers are kind of a wrecking crew in the first place. With these guys, I wasn't impressed. First of all, they came out three days early. They were kind of pissed off because I didn't have my furniture moved. I told them that I'm all by myself and they're three days early. They showed an attitude about it. They tried to move all my book cases with all the books still in it and they broke it. They weren't happy. The guy did not rush me in to anything I told him. I asked them if they would branch around some speakers under my carpet but he didn't do it right. Finally, I held up $100 for them to do it right. I came in and I have a 50-cable wire. They just grabbed one in and put it on the other end and cut it to two equal lengths. They didn't do it right. They just weren't listening. He got injured and got blood all over my wall. Everybody except for the carpet layers were great. Other than that, I was really happy with everything that they did. I wouldn't mind recommending the company but their carpet installers were a wrecking crew. "

"These are very helpful and very nice people. Even the bookkeeper lady I spoke to on the phone was fun and on-the-ball. We wandered into the warehouse on the advice of a friend, who said we could get crazy deals on remnants. It's true - they've got remnants like you wouldn't believe at great prices. But it turned out we needed more carpet than even their remnants could cover. <br /> So we explored the new carpet rolls with Scott, who was happy to cut off a bunch of samples for us to take home and compare with the colors in our house. We made a decision and were able to place the order over the phone - no need to drive back to the warehouse. The beauty part is they maintain a box of business cards from installers. They work with these installers all the time, and can tell you who does the best work and even who charges what. They gave us a card from Carter Unruh (916.439.3301) and we had him give us an estimate. He was so obviously capable (has a brain, can form complete sentences, answered every question we had and some we hadn't thought of) we didn't even bother getting other bids. It turned out fantastically - having your house carpeted can be a major pain in the rear, but we got a great deal and great service. Thanks Wood Bros. and Carter! <br />"

"The salesman came back with samples for good "rental" quality carpet and we ordered the best he brought with him. After they were through there was over an inch of unpainted wall due to new carpet and pad being thinner than what was removed (Powell homes don't have baseboards in carpeted areas). The painter came back, but the salesman should have known and let me decide if I wanted to spend extra money on repainting or better/thicker carpet (I would have chosen carpet!). Also, they forgot to trim behind all 3 bedroom doors but our handyman did it for us. We are in the midst of getting estimates for installing 3500sq. ft. of "real" wood floors in our home in El Dorado Hills but will look elsewhere."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Strawberry-Valley, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
