"Buck, the lead tech, and Zach came on time and worked quickly and efficiently to clear the main sewer line. They checked their work thoroughly, and since they were able to fix the problem on the first try, I even got them to reseat a toilet that had been improperly installed by the builders years ago without a wax seal. They were so good that they finished everything in one hour. No need for an extra time charge! Now, that is good."

"Technician Assessed The Job Gave A Fair Price And Applied The Coupon From Angie's List! The Washer Drain Was Unclogged By Getting On The Roof (Who Knew) And Is Working Great! We Had Bought A Replacement Faucet And Handles; Just In Case Replacing Was The More Sensible Option Vs Repairing And As It Turns Out The Kit That Would Have Been Needed To Repair Our Dated Faucet And Handles Would Have Taken More Time And Money! Now Installing The New One Still Was No Small Task, But Our Technician Worked Diligently And I'm Happy To Report No More Drip! Atomic Plumbing & Drain Cleaning Is Definitely Our New Go To For Future Plumbing Needs!"

"I can't say enough good things about Joe (#2181), the technician who came to our house, but I'll start with friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Before I called Roto-Rooter, I received a couple of other estimates from companies that inaccurately diagnosed the problem. Sewage was backing up into a first-floor shower, and I assumed that bathroom's sewer line needed to be snaked. The other companies said that must be the problem. But Joe determined that the blockage was a long-time buildup of sludge in the main sewer line. The other companies said they would have charged me much more than I paid -- between $500 and $600 -- and I now know their efforts wouldn't have solved the problem."

"Five plumbing companies provided quotes to replace the main sewer line and install an in-ground clean out at my house. Mr. Rooter's quote was not the least expensive but it was the most reasonable and professional. Every person I dealt with was consultative, courteous and good at what they do. The work started on time and finished in about 4 hours. The only surprise was a good one: the technician discovered a second clean-out needed to be installed at the street end and did that at no additional cost, a good job done right. Everything cleaned-up neatIy afterward including the street. I watched the excavator operator do his thing and was impressed to see surgical precision achieved with heavy equipment and a joystick - from digging the trench in a narrow section next to the house, to filling it back in and then grading it perfectly (it rained heavily about an hour after work finished and all the runoff flowed exactly where it's supposed to go). One week, 14 long showers, 10 giant loads of laundry and countless toilet flushes later, the outflow is working better than it ever did before. Happy to recommend Mr. Rooter Plumbing without hesitation."

"I am amending my earlier review of 01/02/2026 for TR Plumbing. Trevor contacted me after the first of the year to inform me that he is no longer using the services of the subcontractor who was supposed to repair the damage to my bathroom ceiling. He showed up on January 13, 2026 at the time he said he would and repaired the damage. The project is satisfactorily completed."

FAQs for sewer main install, replace or repair projects in Suffolk, VA

When installing a sewer line, you should consider extra costs like tree removal, driveway repairs, or patio resurfacing. Hiring a professional plumber is essential, and you may need additional specialists if landscaping or heavy excavation is involved. Addressing these potential extras up front helps ensure accurate budgeting and prevents sudden cost overruns.

To calculate the length of sewer piping you need, measure the distance from your house to the main sewer line, adding the depth of the city main to this distance. Be sure to account for any obstacles like tree roots or utility lines that may require additional piping.

City sewer lines are installed at a lower elevation to prevent unwanted backflow and water damage. This lower positioning ensures enhanced performance and long-term safety, meeting all technical and safety standards.

With trenchless methods, a plumber inserts a smaller pipe within the existing plumbing, avoiding full excavation. It can be more cost-effective and less disruptive than traditional methods, but it's not suitable for all homes.

Yes, you must secure permission from your local water authority before connecting to a public sewer line. This approval ensures your connection meets all regulatory requirements.

Sewer lines are buried between 18 inches and 8 feet deep, with most systems placed between 18 and 30 inches. In colder regions, pipes are set deeper to remain below the frost line.
