"Hired Scott and his Nephew to install a woodstove. They came out right away and gave us a free detailed estimate. There was some work needed on the chimney on the roof. Scott gave us tips on how to do it ourselves. Ended up doing the work myself, Scott came by later double checked everything before continuing. Scheduled an appointment, they were on time, friendly, professional. And most importantly honest! I would hire these guys again in a heart beat."

"My girlfriend had requested service for her natural gas fireplace that has been having issues ever since she moved in to her place seven years ago. Jim was extremely thorough and was able to get the fireplace working the way it should. He was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. If I had any type of fireplace, I would highly recommend The stove Doctor and request Jim."

"Home Fire Stove was excellent in service and installation. The entire process went smoothly, professionally, on budget, and the installation staff even finished getting my woodstove in and ready for use in less than the estimated 5 hours I was quoted. Store personnel were readily available for any questions I had and responded quickly and cheerfully. A+ all the way!"

"Nate is fantastic! I have had previous companies do vent cleaning but none came close to how thorough he was. Our 40 year-old home had never had the vents cleaned and they were all filthy. Nate spent almost 6 hours cleaning them all out from the furnace first and then from each floor register vent. He then spent two hours assisting with our fireplace, converting it from wood-burning to an electric insert. He is very through, efficient, friendly, and excellent with creative solutions. Plus, unlike most contractors, someone always answers the phone immediately."

"<p>They were there about an hour. They know what they are doing, come when they call and squeeze me in when they can. The minimum cost is a little high but it is not fair to dinge them on that because they are a little far away.</p>"

"I arrived home after being away (since before the recent deluge started) to a wet interior wall. I knew I needed to get someone to come out immediately to find the leak and repair the roof. I called King & King's 24-hour number late at night (I apologize for that, as I got him out of bed) and Dennis of King & King assured me he would get a roofer out as soon as it was light, even though it was Sunday. He did. <br /> The work went quickly. Jerry located the problems (see below), and was done in an hour. Since this was the second repair for the same problem (first repairs by another company), I am thrilled. <br /> The interior wall is already starting to dry off (confirmed Monday morning) and I may have caught it before the dry wall was damaged. I hope so. <br /> The roof was originally put on by Mid-Valley Building in September 2012 and still under warranty when it developed a leak in March 2014. The company has closed, but the bonded owner remained responsible. It took several days for him to get a crew to us and I now realize they did not fix the problem, they just benefited from the fact that it stopped raining. New drywall was finally done in August. This was very well done, but by a different company than the roof repair. <br /> On our own (with my brother, the Industrial Arts [shop] Teacher helping) we replaced the sill board under the wall where the leak had been and replaced damaged shingles. We thought we were done with the water problems on that roof. We weren't. <br /> King & King's roofer found the problems easily. Jerry found several serious errors in the installation of the original roof. The Mid-Valley crew had installed 4 shingles tiles with the nails below the nail line (I have retained these shingles). Mid-valley failed to remove all staples, and at least one had worked through shingles leaving places for water to seep in. They also had failed to trim the starter shingle row down to just above the nail line, which led to cupping on the roof right where there were some of the incorrectly positioned nails. These errors created pathways through the shingles and into the interior. One other issue with the installation did not seem to be contributing to the leak. King & King pointed out that Mid-Valley had used 1&1/2 inch by 1&1/2 inch flashing on the gutter edge, rather than the standard of 1&1/2 inch by 3 inch above gutters. This did not seem to be part of the leak problem to Jerry. <br /> King & King correctly identified the issues and rapidly fixed the problems. Sunday morning's light drizzle did not slow them down. Jerry pulled out the rusty nails and staples on the 4 shingles where the nails were below the nail line. He trimmed the starter shingles where they were now open before recovering the roof. He replaced the 4 damaged shingles and 2 others that had to be remove. And he caulked nail heads under shingles that were not replaced but under which nails had been removed to install the new shingle tiles. He was fast and efficient. <br /> Having competent work done is very important to us. King & King provided the competent work I expect. I plan to put them first on my list to call for any other building jobs in the future. I especially have no problem recommending King & King to others who need emergency roof aid. <br />"

"Bottom line was the process and experience was good; bid price was horrible. Lamont Bros, who I've worked with before a couple years ago, were again prompt and professional. I know they do impeccable work which is why I contacted them. Both Daniel and Joseph were personable, professional and informative. They spent appropriate time surveying the chimney and attic, taking measurements, and explaining options and process. It was enjoyable. They asked what I wanted to budget [as low as possible! :)] and I said $20-25k knowing it was very low but with a budget in my head of about $35K to $40k. They said 20-25k wasn't really reasonable and said just a bathroom generally runs about 20K (which I've also heard from numerous contractors and friends who have had the work done) and that what we were talking about would probably be around 40K, depending on finishes. So I was expecting something in that ballpark. Instead, the bid was $90k to $115k. More than twice what was discussed and what I had budgeted in my head. I am friends with architects and engineers. my family knows contractors. I work for the City of Portland and discuss remodels, new houses, and other construction projects all day long. Some of our good friends just had a top tier contractor do a large remodel that included removing the wall between dining room and kitchen in a classic foursquare house, installing new support beams, putting in new high end hardwood floors on first floor (1000sf), remodeling and reconfiguring first floor bathroom in order to install a new exterior door from kitchen to back of house and building a second story deck that door opened out onto that deck - all for approximately $50k. All this to say the bid was extremely high. I get that our housing market is crazy and the cost of construction is expensive and increasing. Contractors have their choice of jobs and as such can price accordingly. And sure, there is an opportunity cost to taking on a specific job over others. But a bid of $90k-$115K seems like price gouging and taking extreme advantage of the current construction climate. I can only take it as a way of saying they'd rather do other, larger jobs for wealthy clients who don't have concerns about costs."

"Very well. I first contacted this company to address a roof leak on my personal residence several years ago. Since then, I have hired them to do roof replacements on at least four rental properties and they have done other roof repairs, revisions, or cleanings on at least four others. I have experienced many problems in the past with other roofing contractors - as a rental property investor of 30 years in the Salem-Corvallis-Beaverton areas. This crew is honest and does superior work."

"Brett came out and inspected the roof and told me exactly what was going on (only condensation) and said I only needed some venting and even told me we could even tackle it ourselves but I asked for a bid to install it. The other bid I got from a contractor said I need a whole new roof . He was very detailed in his explanation and told me my roof would last many more years. Honesty is something homeowners do not always get with contractors so I value his honesty. I know that we will look to them in the future if we are in need of roofing."
