"Deck had been installed too closely surrounding the swim spa and so removable side panels were too difficult to remove. Decking was removed and support structure trimmed back slightly, enabling access. Well done job."

"I am out-of-state. Someone demolishes my home mail box. I need it replaced ASAP. I called my realtor. I told him about the urgency for replacement and that I could not be there. Yes. He would help. I was called by Kresta Wallace of Harry Wallace Construction of Albany, OR on Monday. I explained the situation. Her response was that they could do it that week. She handled the situation superbly. Two days later on Wednesday, I had a picture of the completed project. Great job. It wasn't just a mailbox. It was the timing, my not being there, and the urgent need all when they are very busy. She understood, took the task, and got it done. Very much appreciated. This company does excellent work and certainly is committed to doing the best job in a timely manner. They sure have the customer first in mind. My thanks to H Wallace Construction. We all need people like Kresta, Harry, and their employees. I would definitely hire them again and I highly recommend them."

"Excellent experience. We knew up front what decking material we wanted, as we had used it on an indoor swim spa surround. We also knew we wanted a smaller deck -- the old one was an L shape and we wanted to eliminate the smaller arm but keep the size of the main portion. The demo went well. There were several very large pieces of rock/concrete forming part of a waterfall that started by the deck -- I dismantled the waterfall and ponds but the rocks were huge and Backyard broke them up and hauled them away for us. After removal of the old material, they quickly built a new frame for the deck. There was a short delay while awaiting delivery of the Fiberon deck boards. In the meantime, we had discussed options to improve the ugly concrete pad by the deck and Derril suggested some pavers to cover the concrete. We liked that and decided to add that to the project. We had originally been thinking about a (faux) stone wall as skirting for the deck but that would have increased the cost quite a bit. Derril suggsted some vertical boards (essentially fence boards) which we decided to go with as an interim solution. They turned out to look great -- and added only $200 to the total cost -- and I think we will just stay with the wood skirt rather than changing to stone. The new decking went on in just a bit over a day. We then waited a couple of weeks for the new Clearview aluminum railings. Those showed up yesterday and were installed today and the new deck with adjacent paver patio looks fantastic. We are very pleased with how it all turned out. Derril and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. One measure of a company is how they handle emergent problems. We had one: During the deck demo they hit a cable going to the heat pump, tripping a breaker, etc. Fortunately, the weather was not extreme and losing the pump for a day or two was not a problem; we were relaxed about the issue and Backyard was most apologetic and got an electrician out to fix the line."

"We accepted 2 different bids from Graham Landscaping. The first was for irrigation and hands down Paul was amazing. He communicated well, was responsive, and went above and beyond at every turn for us. He was personable, professional, and an expert at what he does. We would give Graham Landscape all 5's for the work done under that particular contract. The other bid was for putting in the landscaping. This contract was the one that pulled the overall rating down from all 5's. The person we were dealing with up front was less responsive than we would have liked and we didn't feel the communication was where it needed to be. The crew that came out to do the actual work were fabulous - the sod went in well and looked really tight and clean, the Arborvitae were straight and centered, and the azalea (and 1 rose) were planted exactly where we wanted them. This crew was on time, worked efficiently, cleaned-up after work each day, and communicated well throughout the project."

"The original TREX brand decking we purchased from Kilgore Blackmon was installed approx July 2007, by Spring 2008 boards were failing...they began to lok like paper mache product. I contacted TREX company...they sent a representative and explained there had been a manufatrue problem, but they would only replace boards one at a time as they failed...this was supposed to be a guanranteed product of good repuation. i accepted that they replace three of the boards and pay the carpentar who did original installation labor fees. Over course of 2009-2010 several other boards had same failure and the rest of deck showed signs of splitting at the core. TREX refused to replace entire deck and wanted to continue one board at a time, but with us paying the labor fees. At this point I went to the owner of Kilgore and explained problem and how unhappy I was with the customer service from the TREX company. The Kilgore store stood behind the product they sold and also paid the cost of labor to totally replace the deck. We are so grateful for their integrity, prompt attention to the problem and in general being an honest company to work with..all of this should have been dealt with by the TREX company....we will purchase any hardware or building materials needed in the future from Kilgore...Thank you!!"

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Sweet Home, OR

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
