His quote was far below quotes by other contractors (normally a warning sign), but he clearly knew his stuff and my confidence in him was well-founded. I changed several details as the project went on, and Adie was happy to work with me and make any adjustments. There were delays caused by tile suppliers, but Adie worked to find other sources, and rearranged other commitments to make sure our project was completed as soon as possible. My only constructive criticism is that the quote was not itemized (which was ok for me at the time), but that caused an underestimated cost of the glass enclosure to go unnoticed in the budget until the end of the project. We’d made many changes over the course of the project, so were not unprepared for the higher cost of the glass, but I’d have known sooner if the budget had been itemized. Overall a great experience though and I would use East Bay again in a heartbeat!"

He was pleasant and clearly knew his business. He did a professional job of cleaning out the sludge, showing me the workings of the system and letting me know realistic expectations on the motor life. That said, I decided to err on the side of caution and replace the motor which he had with him. He finished up and cleaned up everything – then last we walked outside to be sure the ejection area was in order. I can rest assured that what was a panic situation just a short time ago is dealt with."

A garage conversion can take between two and six weeks for the construction work, depending on the size and complexity of the project. The converted garage must be attached to your home and include permanent features like proper insulation, finished walls and ceilings, and adequate ventilation. It should be suitable for year-round living, with heating and cooling systems to maintain comfortable temperatures in all seasons. Meeting these standards allows the converted space to be included in your home's total square footage, potentially increasing its value.
In most cases, you do not need to hire an architect for a garage conversion. An experienced garage conversion contractor usually has the skills to help create your desired design and ensure the project meets building codes. However, if your conversion involves complex structural changes or a large-scale redesign, hiring an architect can be beneficial. An architect can provide detailed plans and oversee the design to maximize space and functionality, ensuring the conversion aligns with your vision and complies with all regulations.
