"Eric contacted me shortly after searching Angie's List. I described what I needed, a radon mitigation system, and he provided a written estimate via email. Much lower than what I expected. Eric was able to come out in a few days and install the system. Installation time was about 3 hours. No additional charges. He returned to the house three days later to retrieve the radon monitor and showed me the current reading of 1.0 pC/l, well below the 11.0 pC/l from a prior test. A formal report was emailed the same day; the avg reading was 0.8 pC/l. I highly recommend hiring Radon Fix."

"I waited a month before getting a test kit I called and was told there was something wrong with the Angies list orders but that I would be receiving a kit soon. It wouldve ben nice if they called me to tell me that though. The test results were quick and on par with other radon test I had done locally."

"No problems with the quality of the work or the time it took, but it was surprisingly expensive. So much so that I almost regretted having the work done. The plumber found the shut-off valves inoperable and began replacing them without telling me about it or the additional cost. I should have looked over his shoulder more often and asked more questions, but I did not. Any repairman beginning additional repairs without asking really rubs me the wrong way and leads to a "B" rating at best and a "No" on hiring again. Learn from my mistake: make certain that you do your research on pricing and agree on a price range and scope of work with Geiler (or anyone, for that matter) before they begin the work."

"<strong>It went really well.  They arrived prior to 8 am when they were expected and went right to work.  We are from Northeast Ohio where the ground is more clay than porous soil so radon was a non-issue for us there.  Here in Columbus and central Ohio the soil is great for growing plants, grass, and trees, but not so much for keeping radon gas in the ground.<br /> The owner had told my husband that we could choose where to locate the pipe that pulls the radon gases from the subfloor in the basement.  He suggested that our garage with crawl space would be a great spot to locate the fan and just have the pipe extending through the roof.  It was an excellent suggestion.  <br /> The job took 4 hours and they set up the radon test equipment before they left.  When they returned several days later, they said we do not pay until we receive the results and their invoice.<br /> We were delighted to see how improved our radon level was!  From "unacceptable" (any reading above 4 pCi/L is considered to be unacceptable) to a 0.5 pCi/L reading.<br /> Other quotes ranged from $2300 to the $1300 quoted by OTS.  We are more than pleased to recommend them to everyone.  Our neighbors are now saying that they should get their homes evaluated too.  <br /> </strong> <br />"

"We chose HouseMaster on the recommendation of our realtor. Gary Moore and another inspector were on time, courteous, personable, and welcomed us to follow them around and ask questions (and we had a lot of them). The two of them took all three hours which gave me confidence that nothing was missed. They got into crawl spaces and rafters and other places I wouldn't go. The report was detailed, included pictures, and was online that day. The report was prioritized which made it easy to create the remedy list. I would highly recommend HouseMaster to anyone. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Thornville, OH

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
