"I’m always skeptical about hiring anyone off the internet. However, Max was able to troubleshoot within minutes and apply a solution that worked. Every other repairman I spoke with said it was ‘this part, which is no longer made’ or ‘this board, which is no longer made’ and did not offer any other solutions. Max knew it was old, but installed newer parts that did the same job. Since I didn’t have to go buy a new fridge, in a pandemic, with serious supply chain problems…He saved me thousands. Thanks Max"

"I hired Yari based on positive Angie's List reviews.  Overall, I'd give him a luke warm rating, and MIGHT use him again, though would probably investigate some other options first.  The work done overall was good, however...

The clean-up was poor.  There was a LOT of small broken tile bits and dust left over after they replaced the kitchen tiles.  I have cats (as they saw), and they could have very easily tracked sharp small bits of broken tile on their paws from the loads of it left on the kitchen floor and in the grooves where the grout is.  When they repaired the broken stucco outside, they left dust and debris at the site and obviously threw the remaining water/plaster/mortar/whatever mix through a fence and into my neighbor's yard (am going to try and attach pix - I think I can do that here).  The price he quoted me was for parts and labor ASSUMING I had all those parts already.  I had to go myself with one of his workers to a nearby plumbing supply store to pick up needed items.

He was very responsive in person and by phone, and very cordial and prompt.  The work was decent enough.  I don't know enough about home repairs and contracting to know how fair the price was, but it seemed to be in the ballpark.

Overall recommendation : Proceed, but with caution, and make sure you're clear from the outset what exactly your needs are and what exactly he's promising to provide.  And make sure they clean up properly before leaving."

"I reached Bill on my first call and described the problem (water pump) and he gave me an phone estimate. It was 30% lower than another bid I received from one of Angie's "A" list appliance repair firms who had charged me $160 to just look at it and make a repair bid. I decided to give that firm the job, but they never returned although the receptionist said the owner would call me back, but for 2 days he never called me back, so I called Moonlighting Appliance Repair. When Bill came and confirmed his price, I gave him 50% deposit so he could order the parts and he in stalled it 4 days later. I would definitely use him again and would recommend him for price and service.

"Affordable Home Repair did numerous things around our home! We had just moved into our home and needed multiple things fixed that the previous owners 'attempted' to repair. We asked him to please stop by and 'inspect' the house for any other things we may have missed or suggestions on improving the appearance.

DOORS
First and foremost was our back sliding glass door. The previous owners had bought a used sliding glass door that did not fit in the door space. We did not know this and James pointed it out. He showed us how someone could have easily slid the door open and broken into our home, had they wanted to! We had no idea and were very thankful that he pointed it out! He had originally come to stop the door from squeaking when we closed it and to make it easier to open and close since I was in my third trimester. Our door is now quiet, secure and easy to open and close! Our home has a pocket door for the master bedroom bathroom. When we moved in we were unable to open and close it, it was stuck inside of the wall. James was able to fix it and we can now close the restroom door.

CLOSET SHELVING, ORGANIZATION & CARPENTRY
He helped us organize our storage closet. He designed the shelving so that we could fit our storage and linens. He cut the wooden shelves, put them in the closet and then sealed and painted them. He also gave us tips on which paint to use if we ever wanted to repaint it, so that it would be easier to clean. He removed and lowered the shelving above my washer and dryer because it was too tall for me. He also suggested we add a shelf above our kitchen sink on the kitchen window. That shelf alone greatly improved the look of my kitchen and now I can happily walk into my kitchen without cringing at the how it looks!

LIGHTING AND ELECTRICAL
My husband and I moved from Germany and with us we brought VERY large pictures that move (moving waterfall) and light up. Unfortunately they were made with german electrical equipment. Affordable home repair helped us figure out a way to convert them. He then hung our pictures on the walls and they now light up our living and dining room beautifully!

PLUMBING
We had a leak under our master bathroom sink that he easily repaired!

PATIO
He realigned the bricks that lined the walkway to our front door. It completely changed the look of our entryway and I no longer feel embarrassed inviting people to come over or ring my doorbell!

DRYWALL
Lastly, my husband accidentally made a very large hole in one or our walls while roughhousing with a friend. James easily repaired the wall and we cannot tell where the hole was. He did a great job!"

"HORRIBLE. I bought the BIG DEAL from Angie's list, he showed up on time for giving me estimate. I gave him three options-- install fans, do some finishing on the flooring or paint the doors with some touchup inside. I was given an estimate of 3 hours (for which I already had the coupon from Big Deal) we agreed (in writing) on three hours and if it takes longer the complete job will not exceed $100. 1. He was late. 2. He did not do any work himself, and the guy he hired knew nothing about painting. 3. Threaten twice to leave the job unfinished and walk out 4. Shoddy insincere work (for God sake its painting not rocket science)"

"The cleaning was good. They cleaned the windows - inside and out - and that was really wonderful. Although, they took the covers off the lights in the bathroom and one of the bolts fell down the drain and one of the cleaners left to get the bolt to replace, but they didn't extend the amount of time he left to the cleaning time, so in the end, I feel like they spent about an hour messing with the lights and not getting as much cleaning done. What they did do, they did a good job with and were very nice.

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in Thousand Palms, CA

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
