"This was definitely a 5 star operation from the initial discussions to the finishing touches! For a major renovation and upgrade to our master bathroom we reviewed potential contractors and their customer comments. VKB stood out. Our VKB designer Sean clearly has artistic talent and lots of design experience. He patiently worked with us, showing us 3D design options as we considered alternative configurations and materials. When we were satisfied with the design, Sean transitioned us smoothly to the build phase, introducing Jason as our project manager and Walter as our crew chief. Sean personally familiarized Jason with the project, inviting us to share our thoughts and any concerns. During the renovation, Walter and his crew would carefully isolate the MBR work from the rest of the house, sealing off the room and path to the front door with plastic barriers and floor coverings every morning and remove them every evening. Everyone was polite and sensitive to our living space. Jason was responsive to our wishes to refine several design aspects as the work proceeded, and Walter and his crew smoothly made the alterations. After the main construction was completed Jason remained very attentive to our ‘punch list’ of remaining details and our questions until all had been resolved. Walter ensured very high-quality work down to the finest detail. All the work from design to completion was well within the timeframe we had hoped. In the end, we have a beautiful MBR well beyond our original expectations!"

"I'll start with the TLDR blurb: Gary, Junior, Kenny and Clint from Two by Four did a fantastic job on my basement. I'm very happy with their professionalism, workmanship, and candor. 
Now for the long version. We recently moved into a new house which has a finished basement. The problem was that there was a weird shaped room with no windows, no air registers and electrical receptacles high on the wall as if a countertop used to be there. In short, we wanted this room removed and the basement to have a completely open concept. After contacting multiple contractors about the work and getting bids, I happened to find the Angie's List Big Deal advertising 35 hours of general contractor work for $1500 by Two by Four ("2x4") Construction. Great deal, so I purchased it. 
After some back and forth with Gary, the owner, we found a mutually agreeable day for him to come and look at the job. We walked through the basement, talked about what I wanted done, and he understood exactly what I wanted, We even talked about a support column in the room that might contain plumbing which would make installing a sink easier in the future. (Something my wife and I are certainly interested in doing somewhere down the line.) After everything was gone over Gary explained that the job would most likely take longer than 35 man-hours to complete and electrical work was charged on a per hour basis because you just can't tell what's behind the walls until you take them down. Considering two guys at 9 hours a day comes to 18 man-hours, the 35 hours from the deal would go pretty fast. Gary provided an estimate of what it would cost for the work, not including the electrical, and we decided that we would just subtract the $1500 already paid from whatever the end cost ended up being.
On the day work was scheduled to begin, Junior (Gary's son) and Clint showed up early and was ready to roll. I went over the details of the job with both of them to make sure we were on the same page. Junior wasn't sure any electrical work would be done the first day so we didn't discuss that too much. After that, they started working immediately. About 11:30am that morning I got a call from Kenny who was doing the electrical work to ask a few questions on the location for the pendant lights and where to relocate the switches. I had everything pre-measured and drawn out for him so it was easy to know where everything went. He also explained that the wiring in our basement was a mess and gave me several options to fix it. We decided to create an access panel in the ceiling and he fixed the wiring and brought everything up to code. On the advice of Gary, I purchased additional laminate to fix the holes in the floor where the walls were removed. Turns out the stuff I bought was too thick to match what was already there. 2x4 went to Home Depot and purchased the right stuff (and even matched it much better than I did to what was already there!) and fixed it all up. The stuff they bought was even cheaper than the stuff I got! After the first day, much to my surprise, the work looked at least 75% finished.
On the second day, Kenny and Clint came to finish up the electrical and the drywall guy came to start patching everything up. Kenny called me around 3:00pm and informed me that the 35 hours would end at 4pm. At that time they would pack up and leave. He said that there was still some drywall work that needed to be finished but it was my call on whether to have the guy come back on Wednesday to finish it up. He explained what needed to be finished, how long it would take and how much extra it would cost. He was completely up-front about everything and I really appreciated that. We went ahead and scheduled the drywall guy to come and finish everything on Wednesday. 
On Wednesday, Kenny texted me when the drywall guy was finished and asked when he could come by that afternoon or on Thursday to do a final walk-through and pick up some equipment that was left in the basement. He came over at 7am on Thursday morning. All of the work was great. Kenny even gave me some tips on painting the ceiling and walls. The only minor negative about the whole job was finding left over materials and trash left on my back patio. It took all of 5 minutes to bag up and put out with the rest of the trash so not a big deal.

The house looked amazing once it was finished and sold for $50K more than it would have without the remodeling. "I would highly recommend this family run company. I had the pleasure of working with the daughter and she ensured the proper contract was in place and answered any of my questions prior to the project beginning. She managed the process seamlessly and ensured she kept proper documentation throughout the process. Then her father and his team begin the work efficiently following through on all aspects of the contract. They even tweaked a few things along the way as I asked. Customer service was delivered on a high level along with quality work. The price point was also fair with warranty on the work prepared. The job was completed on time and mom came in to do a final cleaning of all of the spaces effected by the renovation. I will certainly be doing business with this company again. It is hard to find honest and reliable contractor so I am happy to have found one."

"We had a great remodel experience with Mega Kitchen and Bath. After watching a little too much HGTV in preparation, we had lots of design ideas and the designer Kat Bradshaw was extremely patient and accommodating as we changed our mind and asked to see multiple design options. She also helped us make (and edit) our design choices and came up with solutions to help fit everything we wanted in our small space. She provided great customer service, was extremely responsive, and spent a lot of time with us as we made all my design choices. Once construction began, Ibrahim and his team were professional, responsive, and easy to work with as well. They came every day on time, did high quality work, and kept us updated on progress and issues that arose. While no renovation project is complete without a few surprises and minor snafus, the team handled them quickly and professionally. They were always willing and available to answer our questions, inform us of issues, give us options for addressing the issues that arose, and make changes we requested. They even went above and beyond the terms of our contract, fixing a burst water pipe for us when the winter weather got the better of our old pipes at no additional cost. The remodel was completed within 6 weeks, slightly longer that the original estimated but very reasonable given the changes and unexpected issues that came up. In summary, we would highly recommend them to others!"

"This is the second renovation Chris has done on our house (the first time as builder; this time design & build), and I would highly
recommend GS Builders for any home remodeling project. As other reviewers have mentioned, Chris is tremendously experienced and passionate about his work. He listens closely to what homeowners want to achieve and, just as importantly, want to avoid. He has an amazing eye for the possibilities of a space, both as a builder and a trained architect, and he?s assembled a talented, highly professional team to execute the ultimate vision. He and Nicoleta are incredibly generous with their time, patience, and ideas, and they are fair in their pricing. The work on our home was finished within the projected timeline. The design process (with Chris and colleague Nate, who is an architect and structural engineer) was highly collaborative and included a variety of design options to meet our requirements. We had lived in our house for more than 16 years when we started planning our recent renovations. So we had a very good sense of what was working for us and what had to change, and we had fairly specific objectives for the project, though we were open to ideas on how to achieve them. The new kitchen, for example, had to have more natural light (the old galley kitchen was an interior room), much more uninterrupted counter space, some kind of barrier (i.e., peninsula) between the cook and others in the same space (kids doing homework, dinner guests chatting), etc. We had similarly specific objectives for the dining room, master bedroom / bath, and exterior, plus a few other ?nice-to-haves?. After consulting with several architects and builders who had recently done work in our neighborhood, I contacted Chris. (Twelve years earlier, Chris?s firm had enclosed a our covered porch for a family room and built a full bath and additional closet on the first floor. Impeccable work completed on a tight deadline.) A few minutes into our first on-site meeting for this project, I felt at ease. Not only was this someone who seemed immediately excited by the project, but Chris also saw things differently from the others I?d spoken to. A prime example was with the kitchen. In an attached garage/storage space off the kitchen (too small for a car), which others dismissed entirely or saw as maybe
a mudroom, Chris was pulling down the attic ladder, checking roof height, raising the floor in his head, and envisioning possibilities. Today that former garage space houses the main part of our kitchen, with high ceilings; a tall, triple-wide window over the sink; loads of cabinet and counter space; a peninsula into the open and spacious dining area; and more. And it looks beautiful from the outside (i.e., unrecognizable as a former garage). Chris and his team worked similar wonders throughout the house, bringing loads of natural light into our once dark, tight rooms and creating beautiful, open spaces well suited to our tastes and life style.
I?m someone who likes to understand how things work behind the dry wall and beneath the floorboards, and, I admit, I?m a bit of a worrier. That combination can lead to lots of questions for a contractor. Chris and Nicoleta were always respectful of my curiosity and quick to respond both to my questions and to any issues that arose. Planning and then living a major renovation is exhausting, messy, and at times downright grueling. Chris and Nicoleta (and their entire team) are highly sensitive to this, and they do what they can to minimize the pain. But mostly they see what awaits you on the other side, and they keep things moving diligently and methodically toward that end, so you can see ? and enjoy ? it too. I can?t imagine we?ll do another renovation on this house (touch wood), but if we did, we?d call Chris and Nicoleta in a heartbeat.

"We originally contacted Tim Johnson from Lakewood Home Builders to get an estimate to fix our deck and screened porch. This project which we had envisioned to be a small repair turned into a much larger project. We ultimately contracted Lakewood Home Builders to completely renovate our deck/porch with composite, replace rotted framing, add lighting, and a new screen door. Tim was responsive and communicative throughout the job and his crew was always respectful, punctual, worked long days and did a great job tidying up the job site each day before they left. The finished product was exceptional. We were so pleased with the deck/porch that we decided to have Lakewood Home Builders renovate all 3 bathrooms in our home, beef up attic insulations, and replace all interior doors to include closet doors. The crew was always punctual, worked long days and cleaned up the job site each day before leaving. Like with the deck/porch renovation, Tim came by the job site every day. He communicated details of the progress and discussed any issues or concerns. The time he spent talking through minute details was comforting and helped us to make necessary decisions along the way. We are extremely pleased with Lakewood Home Builders and specifically Tim Johnson. We have recommended them to friends and neighbors who have ultimately contracted with them too. Hopefully we are done with major home renovations, but if something arises in the future, we will definitely contact Tim Johnson and Lakewood Home builders."
