"We used DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen earlier this year to put in a new bathroom in our basement plus do a minor remodel (countertop replacements) on all of our other bathrooms to match the new one. I have to say, we couldn't be more happy with both the end result as well as how DreamMaker approached the entire process from start to finish. The DreamMaker team were really friendly, professional, and responsive from day one until, well, weeks after they'd finished when we had some questions about care and maintenance. They were very transparent with their pricing up front and also provided a complete product list of everything they had installed. When they were working inside of our home, all of the workers that came to visit took immense care. They did a fantastic job in covering up all of our carpet they were walking on, covering up the floors and other surfaces in our bathrooms that they were working in. They kept everything really clean and we were impressed at the attention to detail (the DreamMaker team found minor imperfections that the wife and I missed to correct in the final walk through, far more critical of their own work than we were!). I only have one complaint. They did such a good job with the new bathroom in the basement, it makes our master bathroom look bad!!! (Good problem to have in the end) Pricing wise, we had gotten quotes from multiple vendors earlier on in this process. Considering how top notch of an overall project experience we had, I can pretty happily say that none of them came close to matching the value DreamMaker brought. We will certainly be looking to them in the future for any other projects! (Pictures are just of the new basement install, they also put that black countertop in our other bathrooms)"

"Steve and his crew did a phenomenal job with our basement. We have a walk out ranch that was unfinished and we hired Flair to complete the job. Steve worked with us and a designer to create a basement that is both beautiful and functional. I might be biased, but I believe we have the nicest basement and bar area in Omaha. I believe it is now approximately 1,400 square feet of finished basement. We have a 13 foot bar and an area with a shuffle board and poker table. One end of the open family room has a theatre area. There are two bedrooms, one with a full bath and walk in closet. And a and quot;powder roomand quot; and workout room. One thing we discussed with Steve is that wanted a nice area to entertain. We have had 40 to 50 people in the main area and did not feel crowded. All of the cabinetry is well built and beautiful. We have used Steve since this project to build wood furniture for our children's play room. We wanted the stain to match furniture that was currently in the play room. The finished product was solid and the stain matched perfectly. Flair is currently building us a new kitchen Island as well as adding a mud room to our upstairs. We would highly recommend Flair custom cabinets for any type of remodeling project. <br />"

"HC Remodel and Design is an excellent company. From start to finish, Gary and all of his staff took great pride in my master bath remodel. They were very professional, highly skilled, communicated well, were available for any questions or concerns no matter how small, took great care to keep things as clean as possible, were always courteous, and were as interested in my project and it's outcome as I was. I couldn't be happier with my master bath. It's the result of their experience, talent, guidance, and attention to even the smallest detail."

"I tried to do a coupon thing for this company and the communication just wasn't really good. Perhaps the deal was for something different than what I thought and the contractor did not want to deal with my wife and me. I am not sure what happened but it just did not work out."

"<p>This went very well. The company did a great job. It did take them a little longer than they initially stated but they did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves and also called ahead when they were running late. The communication with them went well. </p> <p>When a piece didn't fit appropriately, they cut the piece to ensure it would fit my home without charging me any extra money. </p>"

"He was a referral from a friend. We liked what they did. I have recommended them to other people. They were very helpful with ideas and remodeling. They were very good about cleaning up when their days work was done. They always came when they said that they would, and did a very good quality job. I am very happy with the work that they did."

"<p>We were very pleased with the work done by Sanwick!</p> <p>Our house is 90 years old and we had been slowly remodeling it over the last 10 years.  The last two big things to do were the kitchen (a complete gut job) and adding a second bathroom.  We also needed a few new windows, including one in a basement room where we wanted the window made larger.</p> <p>We originally got three estimates for the work we needed done; Sanwick's was in the middle (not the cheapest) but we chose them because Todd Sanwick spent the most time with us on the estimate, had the best suggestions and alternatives, and gave us the most complete write-up.  Also, their reviews on Angie's List were very positive, and we had a friend that made a personal recommendation.</p> <p>They started work in early February, gutting the kitchen back to the studs and removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room.  Also tearing into the concrete floor of the basement to lay the plumbing for the new bathroom.</p> <p>As with any project in a 90-year-old house, there were a few bumps along the way (some minor structural issues; problems with old electrical wiring, a couple of plumbing issues, etc.).  The Sanwick folks were careful to explain everything when we ran into problems and to give us alternatives for addressing them.</p> <p>John, the superintendent for our work, was always available when we had questions and worked hard to be sure things were happening as quickly as possible.  The original time estimates we were given were 8-12 weeks, and the job was finished in about 9 weeks.  The budget did expand somewhat from the original estimate; but it was due entirely to unexpected issues that popped up or to additional items that we requested.  The original estimate was about $62,000, the final total was about $70,000 (the windows were not a part of the original estimate; they were a big chunk of the additional cost and were something we requested after the start of the project).</p> <p>As for the quality of the work - we couldn't be more pleased!  The new kitchen is beautiful and considerably more functional than the old one.  The new bathroom in the basement is actually nicer than the one on the main floor!  Sanwick has a great set of subcontractors they work with - we especially love the beautiful custom cabinets for the kitchen (done by T & T Custom Cabinets), and the really nice tile work in the new bathroom.</p> <p>We are extremely happy with the results, and would not hesitate to use Sanwick again.  We highly recommend them!</p> <p></p>"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Underwood, IA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
