"In home Sales person Nathan Heiner had come to our house to provide free estimates. We were looking to replace the carpeted area including the stairs and refinish the existing hardwood floor downstairs. He was very punctual and was on the property on time, Infact, I got delayed due to evening commute traffic. I walked him through the work that needed to be done. <br /> He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. SG Carpet is partnered with Costco and provides excellent service to Costco members. In addition he discussed all the options that we had for our remodel. <br /> Their pricing was within our budget but, unfortunately, they did only new installations. As we had to rebuild stairs and refinish our existing hardwood, we decided to go with the contractor who can provide all these services. <br /> I highly recommend Nathan! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Work went smoothly. Originally was going to put sheet vinyl over existing floor. But with the size of the refrigerator, the workers had to pull the old flooring out. They did all that with no additional cost."

"From the first contact with Jim until the last room was laid, we were very pleased with Conklin Brothers. Not living in this area but helping out my parents, I consulted Angie's List. This is where I found the great reviews on Conklin Brothers. My need was immediate. I was bringing my father home on hospice. Within one week, the carpet was  measured, ordered and laid. I was so impressed with the value and timely response I asked Jim to come out and do the little cottage. Another great job with excellent results. Thank you Jim <br />"

"When we purchased our home, the sellers had put in new carpet throughout the house.  As time would show, however, they had clearly gotten the Home Depot special, because less than three years later, multiple large ridges had developed throughout the house.  I thought we would have to get new carpet, but then I learned about carpet restretching.  Gary saved us!  I cannot stress what a delight it was to work with him - scheduling an evaluation and then the actual repair was straight forward and easy, he was punctual both times, very personable without wasting time.  He estimated it would take 2.5 - 3.5 hours for the job, and finished in exactly 3.  Our house is transformed; no longer do we have the veritable carpet Himalayas in our entryway as an unsightly trip hazard.  I recommend him whole heartedly and am so happy I found him through Angie's List in the first place. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Union City, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
