The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard. Donohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices. **WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)
"We were contacted immediately regarding adding a lightning protection system on our home. Seamus was very thorough and knowledgeable regarding our concerns. He and his crew showed up and were very professional and efficient. We are very pleased with the installation and highly recommend Donahue’s."

"On December 13th I had the electricity in my home updated. RJP electric was recommended by a friend that said they were "ok". The people that came to do the work were polite and diligent but every conversation with Tom for organizing was complicated. Tom originally came to look at the house to determine what work needed to be done. He was short and rude during this process. I have a house made in the 1880s, there were a few points I wanted to go over and he mentioned that if he was here more than 15 minutes I would start being charged hourly. While I should have let this be enough to find someone else, I understand the time of others, especially those in trades, is important. I might have caught him on a bad day so I proceeded to move forward with the job. The day after the work was completed on the 14th he sent an inspector to my home with an hour notice at 9:30am. I work nights running my company and this derailed everything for that day that was planned. I said I needed more notice than an hour for when people are going to be at my home and he proceeded to blame the workers that were here the day before for not notifying me. The interaction was filled with more frustration as the main goal of the job was not completed. While this could have been an easy fix with missing this in the original contract and coming back out with a new contract, I have hired a more trustworthy company to finish the work and to check on the details of our contract contract RJP due to how this was handled. After having 2 hours of sleep and being told "oh well, I'm sorry but they should have told you" displays the lack of professionalism in how this company is organized. There were a few points of needing to come back out from the original contract that I discussed with the workers and Tom was unaware of this. He also wanted to brow beat me by exclaiming that he had done nothing wrong, I should have looked more closely at the contract, by saying the contract was completed and that his original notes never mentioned the stove I needed installed. The goal of having the electrical update was to install the new stove for more production for my company. If more time was taken during the initial check, if I had more electrical knowledge or if Tom was more attentive all of this could have been avoided After paying $4300 on work for my home and to be treated in this disregarding, complacent manner is frustrating. Take the time to find someone more trustworthy and cares more about your home and your time."

Lightning protection systems may help reduce the risk of damage when properly installed. Rather than preventing strikes, these systems provide a preferred path for lightning to follow into the ground instead of through your home's structure or electrical systems. The effectiveness depends on proper installation by qualified professionals and the system's adherence to safety standards. When systems meet UL requirements and are professionally installed, they can help mitigate potential damage from direct lightning strikes.
Installation timeframes vary based on system complexity and property characteristics. Simple installations involving just a couple of lightning rods might be completed in a few hours, while more extensive systems for larger homes with complex rooflines could require additional time.
Weather conditions, accessibility, and the number of components being installed all affect the timeline. Planning ahead and scheduling during favorable weather conditions can help ensure an efficient installation process.
Some insurance providers may take professionally installed lightning protection into consideration when determining policy terms. The potential impact on premiums varies by insurance company, location, and the specific details of your protection system. Systems installed by UL-certified professionals that meet recognized standards may be viewed more favorably. For specific information about how a lightning protection system might affect your coverage or premiums, contact your insurance provider directly.
Homeowners in regions with frequent thunderstorms, particularly those in "Lightning Alley" states like Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma, might benefit most from these systems. Properties situated on elevated terrain, homes near tall trees or bodies of water, and buildings housing valuable electronics or irreplaceable items are also good candidates. If your area has a history of lightning strikes or your home has previously experienced lightning-related issues, a protection system may provide additional peace of mind during storm seasons.
