"I called Barry's Carpet about a basement installation estimate and Barry Peeper, the owner, responded and was at my house for an estimate within 24 hours. I had 80% of my basement floor to cover plus stair and landing. When he saw the intricate pattern of my proposed carpet, he made sure to ask how I felt about the possibility of patterns and seams, i.e. they sometimes don't match up perfectly. He also pointed out that since my rooms were not perfectly "on square", that the he would need to cut along "rows" at the walls. I appreciated his concern and experience to point these things out. He gave me the amount of carpet I would need to order and an estimate for the job. I was in a "bind" to get the carpet in quickly, and Barry was able to accommodate the somewhat restricted schedule. The day after having the carpet delivered, Barry was in to lay the tack strip on the basement floors. He came back two days later, a Friday, giving the glue sufficient time to dry on the tack strips. Unfortunately, my basement was a first where the glue didn't hold, so Barry quickly drilled and secured the strips to the concrete floor. This required him to make an extra trip to finish a section (again, due to my schedule: he probably would have finished the job if I could have accommodated him). Barry returned on Monday to finish the job in about an hour. The carpet looks great and I was more than satisfied with the job he did. I was unable to locate the two seams, even upon close inspection. My only complaint would have been the protracted phone conversation he was having while cleaning up upon completion. As the job was not paid by the hour, and he was finished, I wasn't bothered about him taking a call. However, it seemed rather loud, and of a personal nature, and I closed the basement door to try not to eaves drop, but still heard a lot. As a professional, I probably would have called the person back after leaving the work site."

"I was not happy with the carpet cleaning because they didn't move my furniture. They just cleaned the carpet around it. I thought the price was high for the service provided. I would not use them again for my carpet cleaning."

"Great! My salesperson (Michelle Cooper) was fabulous in suggesting ideas for me to choose from. She took the time to ask questions and get to know me so that every one of her ideas that she presented to me were exactly my style! She's professional, knowledgeable, has great taste and is really a nice person! I highly recommend Standale Interiors and hope you ask for Michelle. Almost forgot - installation was a breeze. They were on time and finished way before I expected. Fabulous install - it looks great!"

"Absolutely wonderful work done at an extremely reasonable price! Prentiss was always very friendly and helpful throughout the process of getting a quote, picking out our carpet & flooring, and setting up an install date. The services rendered went far above and beyond what was expected, and it was extremely nice to have such eager, polite and kind workers in our home. Would absolutely recommend and we are likely to reach out to Portage Flooring first if we ever need other flooring jobs completed in our home.!"

"It went great. I had to have some wall to wall berber type carpeting stretched and rolled better than it was. Reason? It's a modular home that was split in two, moved, then re-seamed up. The house move crew did a great job re-seaming the carpeting but I needed the carpet rolled and tacked down better. Jim did a great job. Would hire again and refer to others. I think he also does fencing."

"It was smooth. Removed old carpeting from both areas, installed main floor the first day and then returned for lower level next day. They saw the stair wall needed touchup and allowed us to paint before they laid the carpeting on the stairs"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Vicksburg, MI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
